    Need help fast!!!!!!!!!
Ok so I just treated my adult female ball pythons using 5x sprays of insect spray and sprayed her tank with ardap and left it too air out for 3 hours so that I can no longer smell it, put her in and withing minutes she started doing this crazy yawning realigning her jaw thing, I've took her out and put her in a run for the time being but she keeps doing it, wtf is going on?????

Normal yawning and/or realigning her jaw wouldn't worry me too much, but since you are using the word "crazy"... I'm not sure what to think about that. The dangers I have heard regarding mite treatments are usually more neurological stuff such as looking like they suddenly developed a severe spider-head-wobble type condition, losing track of what direction is up, etc.

Are you sure the spray you put on the snake is safe to be used directly on the animal?

What are the active ingredients in that and in the ardap?

Taking her out of the enclosure and putting her in a different tub for the time being sounds like a good idea.

I have absolutely no experience with that particular spray...

and pictures of what the snakes are doing would help...that was more of what i meant when I made the picture comment...did you wash out the tanks before you put the snakes back in?

Don't need to wash the tanks after the spray as it leaves a residue that keeps working for 6 weeks and I got the tank spray from my exotics shop where I buy my snakes and they use it on their tanks

The spray I used on the snakes the insect spray with the green instructions says to avoid eyes mouth nose and vent, if they got it on their mouth or nose could that be causing the yawning realigning thing?

    nvmd...

they could still be having an adverse affect to the spray. I'd place them in a well ventilated area.

The spray for the snakes is made for snakes the ardap is a universal pest control for use in pigeon shed bird cages animal cages and dog kennels but I've seen threads on rfuk where they use it in snake tanks and the pet shop used it in their snake tanks

I don't want to scare you, but you should avoid using Pyrethrins (which seems to be an ingredient of that Ardap spray) on reptiles. Specially if it's aerosolized.

Have a look at this article:
    http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Rept...d-Permethrins/

Try to keep them in a clean enclosure for a while, and make sure they have enough ventilation. Hope they get better!

Thanks for that post seems I have the answer now, the yawning stretching choking look must be them open mouth breathing from the fumes, guess it needs airing out more, so If I keep them in a run in a separate room now they should be ok?

So... it's been about an hour since you first posted. Are they doing better?

My guess is that the ardap didn't have enough time to air out adequately, or you just used too much of it and/or the other one. Pyrethrins and the rest of that family are kind of scary, but since you say other UK people have used these products with snakes, then my guess is that it is more an error in the way it was used than the product chosen. I'd always go underkill rather than overkill on these things, as you can always do another treatment.

If they aren't looking better even out of the enclosure, I'd wipe them down to try to remove what is on them.

Hi yes went to bed at like 6.30am here as was up all night making sure they were ok, after about 2 hours they stopped doing the mouth thing and settled, I'm gonna try to put them back in their tanks today after airing out for about 12 hours more, I think I did use too much of the ardap as I wanted to blast the little b******* and it's my first time doing a mite treatment, fingers crossed second attempt goes well, thank you too everyone who helped and gave me advice last night, was avert scary time for me and you all helped so thanks again

0.82% permethrin + 0.1% pyrethrin is a very strong insecticide, I really hope you didn't spray that on the snake. PAM isn't that strong, only 0.5% permethrin with no pyrethrin, and the typical NIX treatment (2 oz of the 1% permethrin cream rinse dissolved in 1 gallon of water) that also works for mites is even weaker, only about 0.01% permethrin with no pyrethrin, and yet it still works.

Wash those enclosures with soap and water before putting the snakes back into them.
