Lemon Pastel YB
Found this guy on my local CL... For $50. I'm a bit suspicious and frankly don't understand why a "proven breeder" would be let go for so little. Also I'm having a hard time comparing the pics but see a few markers that indicate that the adult shown is in fact the same snake from the "baby" pic.

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
And now I'm realizing I did not make my intents clear haha... Ummm pics, I'd like to compare, I know its a bit much to ask for pics of 3 gene animals but if anyone of you out there has some pics and willing to share I'd be pleased as punch. Also opinions, advice, and the like are not only accepted they're hoped for, and much appreciated. Thoughts, you have em, please share em! :D thanks

Don't be sucked in by the "proven breeder" tag. Most any Ball Python male, given the chance, will breed.

3 genes? Am I missing something?

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
Haha no it was a typo... 😁 :poker face: haha I've been off the forum and outta the game for a while so it was just a brain fart lol at any rate would you say it looks legit? I mean like a real morph

its the same one, i recognize similar features in the pattern. which is not easy, there are only two areas where the side pattern can be seen in both pictures. the pictures could be better.
a single-gene male typically loses its usefulness after just a few breedings. when you hit something like a male super pastel, firefly, lemonblast, pewter, or bumble bee, you will want to replace/rehome a pastel male.

The angle differences in the photos don't help, but it looks like it's the same snake to me.

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
The guy is now claiming he's pastel YB... I still think it's worth 50 for a pastel but wanted the opinions fellow enthusiasts it'd be my first morph!

The pictures look to be the same snake, a two gene pastel yellow belly. If you are already suspicious of this $50 craigslist snake why would you buy it? I think you would be better off buying from a reputable breeder.

Lemon is not another gene, it is a line of pastel.
I would ask for better picture, come on the baby picture is from the side, whats with the top down picture? I think I see a part you can compare, but still.
-
oh, i assumed it to be a (lemon) pastel.
to determine if it might also have yellowbelly in it, i really need a belly shot.
but for a lemon pastel, its really dark and really browned out. that may also have to do with the quality of the pictures.
about determining if its the same one: in the first picture, there is a wonky alien head left of the thumb, and another wonky alien head that seems to have one square eye is just about visible in front of the ring finger. these can also be found in picture 2. it would be so much easier with better pictures, you can only compare something like 5% of the pattern, just two alien-heads, and if these would not both be rather unusual, i would be lost.

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
This is exactly the kind of feed back I was looking forward to... Ok so to clear the air it's pastel yellow belly he's saying it's a two gene animal... I am a bit skeptical but after looking at the pictures and comparing I'm almost certain it's the same animal and he's offering enclosure and material (UTH etc) along with the snake even if it's a normal 50 for all that would be worth it in my opinion assuming it's healthy. Im asking for better pics now and will see if I can post em later.

assuming its just a normal (it may very well be a pastel yellowbelly, but i would say the pastel-gene would be of low quality in that case), with the equipment on top, 50 dollars may not be a bad deal at all.
it depends. as a pet, its a really good deal.
for breeding, you might already have a tub setup, so the equipment would be less interesting, and then there is the good old equation: "quality in --> quality out". for me, the pastel would be too brown (unless the pictures really turned out too dark or something).

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
I'm no breeder I have one 0.1 normal and have just been looking around to see what I can find at good prices and honestly it'd be really nice to just have another snake... Not to mention I'd love to eventually have one with some kinda morph to breed into my normal further down the road

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
Craigslist is where people sell things for (usually) cheaper than market. When you see the really jacked up animals, it is usually because they bought from a petstore and think the 300.00+ they bought the animal for IS the going price, and they're doing you a favor by marking it down.
That said, I just spent 125.00 on a year old pastel with his stuff. He's a gorgeous snake, but I'm NOT breeding him or interested in breeding; I just wanted a second snake as a pet, because my eldest will be taking hte first with him when he moves out in a few years.
Look at the snake, look at the stuff, decide if you like him and if so - definitely worth 50 bucks for the equipment and easy set up. If you're SERIOUSLY thinking about breeding, definitely get more info, but if all you really want is a couple of clutches of eggs and some babies, rather than mulitgene powerhouses and long projects, you liking him and his temperament and look is way more important than his genetic make up. At least, IMO, that stuff mostly matters to people who are SERIOUSLY going to be breeding for the combos.

I'll be there every step of the way - and heck, given that I spent my Saturday doing, I kind of already am.
I'll look forward to that update!

I'm almost certain it is a Pastel Yellowbelly. In the baby picture, the black has flames in it. For two seasons in a row, I have bred my Orangebelly to a very high quality Pastel. Both seasons I have gotten a female Pastel and a female Pastel Orangebelly. After a couple of shed, there is little difference in their colors, but the Pastels have much bolder and solid blacks, the Pastel Orangebellies have great blushings on the back, on the neck and really awesome flames on the sides. Look at the baby picture again, you can see that the neck has some blushing on the sides and the flames are easy to see. Take a look at my Pastel Orangebelly, the second picture here (http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...-orange-belly/). You can see the blushings and flames in the pictures on World of Ball Pythons. As the animal in question has aged, it certainly has dulled down, which may be a sign of a lower quality line of Pastel being used. But I would still guess that it is indeed a Pastel Yellowbelly based on the baby picture.

Re: Lemon Pastel YB
You guys are all great and the support and info I get from this community is always exciting but it is with much disappointment I must report that the seller bailed... I asked for more/better pics to which he agreed and never sent then texted me to reassure me they'd be sent soon and he'd lmk when he was available to meet and he never did I'm far too busy with work and school to chase this guy around for his snake (insert sexual innuendo here) but knowing how excited this whole thing made me brought about the realization that I definitely want a morph and SOON I'll be on the prowl so if anyone has any they're letting go anytime soon id love to exchange some info and discuss possibilities :) thanks everyone!
