OH BOY, this is not good! Boa breeder arrested
This is just a news article and I'm sure, like always there are tidbits left out and not everything is true but still,,
http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/06/1...2-million.html
I know there are a lot of nice folks here that have had dealings with these guys.
Just in case you have deals in the works or are going to be sending money, maybe hold off on your boa purchase for a bit.
I'd hate to see money sent and then nothing coming to you in return.
What a bummer if it's accurate.

Re: OH BOY, this is not good!
I'm confused. The linked article is talking about guys running a fraudulent precious metals trading scheme. I don't see anything about boas... :confusd:

Yeah, sorry
He is the owner of Perfect Predators.
I assumed everybody knew who he was. That was obviously my fault.
I know people who have done business with P/P and have good things to say.
It would be a shame if there is truly bad juju going on.

Especially if you have money sent in and are in limbo.
This might explain it.

Definitely bad juju going down here. I have bought 2 snakes from Manny - both last year. While communication could have been better, the transactions went off without a hitch and both snakes were gorgeous and in perfect condition. But after seeing recent reports, I'd decided never to buy from him again unless I was at an expo and the transaction was made right there in person. When all THIS came to light, I have to say, I wasn't too surprised. And I'm sort of glad he's out of the business now. Just feel terrible for anyone who had a pending sale...... :tears::mad:

Yes, I'm glad you don't have anything pending! I figured maybe you'd heard about this, but in case you did not I was hoping you'd see it. You are aways a quick decision away from a new critter LOL! No need to get excited and then end up getting ripped off.
There are some other reports on him and it sounds kind of bad. Almost as bad as my spelling in some of these posts. The cell phone with it's auto fill and correct sometimes adds some strange spelling.
And other times my fingers are too big to type the right words!
Totally off topic,, but I want to trade the royal and get a super dwarf retic!
Not sure what it is about this time of year, but I got the BP 2 years ago this May. I got the Boa last April.
If the royal doesn't start eating and becoming a tad more active in the new cage, I'm tempted. Not sure my son will allow it but I'll try.
Sorry,,, that was way off topic LOL!

Once you go with a boa or retic, ball pythons are just so blah..... ;) :D

Re: OH BOY, this is not good!
I've thought about a SD retic many times. They just seem hard to come by, though.

I would just want normal patterns. I think Cody Conway or Vital Exotics would be my start point or Travis Kubes.

Perfect Predators Manny Frade Arrested?
http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/06/1...2-million.html
Not for snake related charges, but for anyone who may have an order coming soon from Perfect Predators, you may want to be looking into filing that Paypal chargeback soon if this holds true. . .
FWIW

Much more info if you look him up on the BOI on fauna classifieds. I have never dealt with the guy, I just read the thread for the delicious drama ;)

Has anyone noticed that the article being shown around is almost a year old? I'd be far more interested in current updates than old news. Not that old news isn't sometimes relevant....it just gets annoying to see it discussed as if it just happened yesterday.

I agree but it appears it's news to a lot of people.

This is not a year old yet and discusses the situation further. It is not out of the ordinary for these cases to go out beyond a year in the courts. There are other articles but I'm using a cellphone and can't take the time to link them all.
Here is another. http://arrestfiles.org/publicinfo/manuel-j-frade
And one more. http://www.corporationwiki.com/Flori...j-frade-manuel
From what I see the case is sill moving forward so the initial headline may be older but it's not over. I'd hold off on sending $$$ for a new snake from them based on the initial article and classifieds feedback at this point.

I realize that this is a necro thread but there was a resolution in the case last year.

Defendant Sentenced for Operating a Boiler Room in Broward County
On February 25, 2016, Manuel Frade pled guilty to one count of scheme to defraud and one count of securities fraud (Chapter 517.301, F.S.). On the same date, Frade was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to two years of prison to be followed by 10 years of probation. Frade was also ordered to pay $438,334.00 in restitution, $100,000 of which was paid immediately. Frade along with another co-defendant, Angel Quinones, operated a boiler room that was used to solicit individuals into investing in precious metals. After the solicitations, which were done through Integrated Market Capital Investments (d.b.a. Midas Asset Exchange), investors typically received account statements that showed the alleged purchase of the precious metals. Investors claimed that Frade and Quinones led them to believe that the metals listed on the account statements would be stored for them in a vault or other safe place until such time as they desired to sell. The OFR investigation revealed that only a small portion of the more than $2 million invested was used to trade possessory rights to precious metal inventory, and none of money invested was used to purchase or store the physical metals. Instead, the majority of the money obtained from investors was used to pay business expenses and for the personal benefit of Frade and Quinones.
