Male normals are a dime a dozen-
Supposedly.
Except I can't find them.
Help a newbie who hasn't figured where to go for this stuff?
I'd like to find a decent breeder, who ships, and actually has male normals (or normals at all). I'm not looking to breed (ever), I don't care what it's het for or not, but I *would* still like to find a decent quality, ethical breeder who could get me a well started snake. If I have to go for some fancy morph to get that, I will, but the truth is... I just want a second snake, and I *like* the normals. Just not enough to go to a crappy pet-store to get one.

Re: Male normals are a dime a dozen-
Should be able to snag some at expos near you
-
I guess it depends on your area, but Craig's List seems good out here.
-
There's no need to pay for shipping on a male normal. Contact local breeders and let them know that you want one as a pet.

This... Look for local breeders in your area and start asking around. I don't know where you're located, but if there are any reptile expos in your area, stop in to the next show and you're sure to find some really cheap.
Another possibility is that if you can't find someone locally producing male normals, ask around with some other breeders. I know when I was looking for my first snake, a couple of breeders from this site offered to send me a free normal male if I paid the shipping... I'm not saying that you WILL get the same response, but it's possible.

Goggle reptile show and the name of your city, you might have one near you and not even realize it. Craigslist is ok IF you know what you doing, you might find one free, but you might also find mites, stuck shed, skinnyl and a plethora of other issues, hence needing to know your stuff. Also be careful, bps are a bit like chips, once you have one, you want another. And another, and another, and so on.

Re: Male normals are a dime a dozen-
Kingsnake.com has listings for upcoming shows

Yeah, I've looked around and I can't find a local breeder. I'll spend some time poking around the kingsnake classified too.
I DID find a rep show coming up, that I may check out, if I can get one of those days off work. It's not close (gas would be more than shipping), but it might be cool for the experience, anyway. ...Odds of me walking out with one snake though might be pretty questionable. LOL.

We've got em :) We've got CB babies, smalls, subadults, and adults, so it's just a matter of the size that you want.

This is not the place, I would appreciate if you would take this to PM

I found my normal male on Kijiji for dirt cheap. I don't know what it would be like where you live, but I find a lot of the breeders in my area post their normals on kijiji for next to nothing. Although I didn't buy mine from a breeder, he is still in perfect health and I love him to bits:)
Hope you find the little guy you are looking for!:snake:

What is your location, we are not mind readers but that is a handy piece of information that could help.

No prob! If you want to remove that post, I understand. :) -Jen

Look at your local FB reptile forums. See who is breeding, period - there's a good chance they produce normal males and females as well as morphs.
-
Just try and find people who don't have kingsnakes...they need fed

I'd vouch for a reptile show being a good "experience" I went to my first last summer and am going to a second in April. You can use that trip to pick up cheap tank decor / furnishings and f/t feeders as well. I got about 6 months worth of f/t feeders at the July show and picked up my first two snakes...Was only planning on one snake, so yes, that is an issue.
You may find a cheap morph at a show too, if you end up liking the look of a morph just as much or more than a normal, odds are you could pick up a single gene morph male like a pastel or mojave cheaply at a show too... A dealer *might* even throw in a male normal very cheap if you buy a morph male...Not that you're looking to come home with two snakes. ;P

I am in the New River Valley, Virginia.
And yeah, the Reptile Show sounds really fun. I ordered a metric TON of frozen feeders when I got atlas (LOL) but finding some tank stuff could be cool, too. (I DO NOT NEED TO COME HOME WITH MULTIPLE SNAKES. I DO NOT. ...but they're so easy and neat and- Yes, potato chips is a good analogy.)

Try here: http://www.vaherps.com/forum - I think there are a few members in your area who either breed BP's or they will know who does.

All that talk and I found a male pastel with all his equipment on craigslist. I'm gonna go check him out tomorrow. I'm not the most experienced person, but I'm pretty good on mites, RI, and healthy weight. Guy sounds like he knows what he's doing, too. (Feeding record and stuff).

Great! I hope it works out for you. If not, keep in mind that many local or sorta-local (in your state) herpers will go to shows...So you an often arrange to pick up bought snakes there.
I'd also add that going to a show gives you something hard to find online...Lots of variety in one place. You would probably see several normals for sale and could pick your favorite.
Yeah...Coming home with 2 snakes wasn't my plan either.
This time I'm prepared, I'll have an empty tank and a second not-set-up tub just in case...Not that i'll tell my husband I have a backup tub or that I might want more than one snake. ;P

LOL. Yeah, that's about why I'm trying to avoid shows, to be honest. I keep thinking "...Maybe I could get a rack.... Then I could FILL IT."
I've TRYING not to go flying off the deep end. How well that works long term, I don't know. Probably just delaying the inevitable. y'all are horrible influences.
