Sneak peek newest addition before going into QT
So I finally did it...came across a hatchling female and took the jump...this is going to be my final addition for quite some time as I am learning lizards require a lot more attention than snakes...here she is!!!

Snapped a pic of the lil girl in her QT enclosure. Those are two large meal worms next to her for size reference! Shes so small!

How exciting! She is adorable...what a sweet baby girl you have! :P Where did you get her from?
I'm curious about the QT, how long will she be in QT for? The reason I ask is because I'm getting a yearling chacoan tegu this week (yay!!! Lol)and when I enquired into the QT for my new Tegu, the breeder told me there is NO QT. I found that unusual because I'm so used to QT with all my snakes. :O
Anyhow, congratulations on your B&W tegu!!!! Don't forget to post more pics as she grows, especially since they grow so quickly! :D:gj::P

She is so cute! I decided a few days ago that an Argentine will be my biggest as addition in a few years, lots of planning to do still. would love to get regular updates on her husbandry requirements, so I have a good place to start planning for my own!

For her QT I am just monitoring her...watching her food and liquid intake, as well as behavior and keeping her away from my other lizards, in a room where there is zero foot traffic so she can settle in.

I plan on continuing to post updates with pictures as she grows...I am in the process of building her an 8x4x3 foot cage with a filtered soaking tub. Husbandry isn't too bad once its dialed in. The only part I am still researching is the substrate...most people use and suggest cypress mulch, but I have been reading up on bio active mixes like they use for monitors.

Good to know! - I didn't know if I was fed incorrect information. The last thing I would want to do is put my new guy/gal (I don't know the gender yet) in jeopardy. :O

Thats great! Looking forward to seeing pictures of her growth and her permanent enclosure! The filtered soaking tub sounds awesome! My husband is building our tegu's permanent enclosure and he's talking about plumbed in water (for soaking tub) as well!
The breeder we are getting the tegu from told us the temporary enclosure we have now will be good until AFTER his next hibernation (5' X 3' X 3'), it gives us time but we plan on making sure his enclosure is completely finished by this fall, just before he hibernates.
Substrate can be expensive for such a large enclosure. We originally wanted his tank full of coconut husk coarse chips, but it would have cost way too much money. We have decided to still use 50% coconut husk and 50% eco earth. :)

Nice! Ya this little girl is a hatchling so she is in a 50 gallon tank for qt. Hoping to have the permanent cage done in two months. I am buying the materials a little bit at a time. Substrate can be very expensive...I am really liking the bio option, my only concern is that you don't wash or sterilize anything and that is completely the opposite of what I do for my other animals...we Wil see. When I get some more info will start a tegu update thread that I will just keep adding to
