Good Vibes Needed!!!
I purchased a female pastel clown over the weekend and she was shipped out today. There was a bit of a mixup getting me the tracking number so I was talking to the seller pretty late tonight. One of the things she mentioned was that she shipped her without a heat pack. The box is currently in Memphis where it is 39F now with a night low of 36F! I'm calling FedEx now to see if there's anything they can do. Any good vibes you can share would be appreciated!

Ouch.
Man good luck! That's pretty cold for a cold blooded animal.
-
who did u buy her from ? this person isn't the brightest of breeders to me .. should be a heat pack with the animal regardless .. n with the temps we have been having across the map this year shouldn't have been issue to put heat in there .. good luck bro

Who the hell ships a snake in March without a heat pack?

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
Please let us know who the breeder was so I can be sure to never buy from them lol!

And this.
I really hope your snake makes it ok!

Yeah, I wish you luck that your pastel/clown is okay but WHO in their right mind would gamble any animal much less that combo this time of year?

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
That was my fault. We are both in Florida, and the lows are in the 50s. I'm from Washington state and every time I had shipped or received a snake that was in also in Washington it didn't go through Memphis so I wasn't concerned about the temps there. I'm learning the hard way that's not the case now that I'm in Florida. I was still shocked that there wasn't a heat pack even before I discovered she was going through the central hub. At this point I don't know if the shipper knew she was going to go through Memphis or not.

Unless its a 100 outside and in the plane then there should be a heat pack or 2

Dude ur bugging anyway u just dropped at least 2k on her why would u even ship now and not wait until it was warmer and if there in fl also y even ship I would have took the day to pick her up and not the chance on any shipping
-
Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
Trust me, if I had had any idea she was going through Memphis I would not have shipped no matter how much she cost. I was not "bugging", I had no idea this would happen. If she was closer I would have picked her up, but a 16 hour round trip isn't feasible right now.

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
SHES ALIVE! Extremely cold and pretty sluggish but alive. I've put her in a tub with the hot spot off to start letting her warm up without shocking her.

Hope is ok and doesn't have any negative side effects. Poor girl... :please::gj:

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
even at 50 a heat pack should have been used.
Good luck with her.

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
BTW it went to Memphis because that is was the closest sorting hub (1 of many around the country) to FL. of course shipping from wash state it would not go to Memphis and back.

I guess we can all chalk your experience up as a lesson learned. I certainly hope your new girl makes a full recovery, and I'm sure many of us will now be doing a search to find out where our nearest FedEx sorting hub is.

Fed ex won't tell you what hub any package will go to for sorting. sometimes if the closest one is "full" it will go to the next closest hub...

Not your fault.
Any responsible breeder knows that they need to check the temperature in 3 locations before shipping (origin, central hub, destination) , which is why you should know the different central hubs.
This help knowing where the package goes (of course there are more central hubs.)

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
I need a bigger thanks button for that post. Knowing how to read that part of the label is priceless information to me.
I think Ill be adding a list of shipping questions to ask when I'm talking with sellers from now on. I guess I had had too many good shippers and I got a little complacent. On top of no heat, there also wasn't a required signature so the Fedex guy just left her tucked behind a plant on the corner of the porch and was already walking away when I opened the door.
Good news though, she's warning up nicely and is starting to move around a bit. I'm keeping a very close eye on her though.

No that's why I wrote that there were more central hubs ;)
Fort Worth is another one, I believe there is a total of 6.
Memphis being what they call a SuperHub.
In my experience most of my packages went through Memphis, after that it's Indianapolis and a few times my packages went through Fort Worth.

It's been a long day and I just fixated on the pic, my fault. I'll have to lookup the other ones tmrw and see what their codes are. Interesting info for sure

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
I'm thrilled to know your girl made it to you ok. I learned the hard way this winter that even with perfect packing and great planning, hub conditions can make or break the final outcome. Please post some pictures when she's thawed out and settled in!

Re: Good Vibes Needed!!!
She seems to be doing great. Once she was up to ambient temp I took her out for a quick weight and pic, turned on her hot spot and added her water dish. She took a long drink and settled in over the hot spot. A few hours ago she had moved to the middle of the tub instead of hugging the heat which I'm taking as a good sign. As of now there isn't any wheezing or unusual behavior.
Here's the one pic I took.
