i was wondering if i could put a sheet on my bed and if my snake could crawl around on it. i want to do this because i have no back yard so he as to have some more space to crawl somewhere but i am scared he will run off the bed? also should i make a barcade to stop this from happening?

Re: The Magical trip to the zoo!
just keep an eye on him while you have him out and he will be fine. you should never leave him unattended outside of his tank anyhow.
-
i know not un attended just he can be kinda quick ya know.
-
how quik is he? roswell will try to remain somewhat hidden outside of his cage, usualy staying at my legs. roo would explore if she had the chance, but we dont let them get to far. just make sure if you have them out to keep an eye on him, and you should be fine.
-
My RTB's setup!
They're so slow as long as you keep an eye on him he should be fine. I'm sure he might enjoy getting to 'stretch his legs' a bit. :)
-
oh ok i jsut put a humid hide in his tank will it raise the humidity and if so should i just put it in when he is going into shed?
-
i would take roxy outside if she actualy enjoyed it but obviously she hates it she looks at me like "brandon....please take me inside now .....PLEASE !!" I dont dare but down the new baby though she is so fast !! i thought i would let her crawl around on my lap on my bed but she shot across the bed and almost went off the side !!, That was a prety close one,no more of that until she calms down with me.
-
mine gets pretty friggin calm and comfortible(hence the fact he went down my back and stayed their for a few seconds and when i took him out he didn't breathe hard) also he is a very slow and explorative lil guy when he calms down.
-
ohh ok well yours is a bp,yeah my bp is super calm too she is perfectly content to curl up in my lap and watch tv with me, but the baby corn......FUGGEDABOUTIT !!
-
diy humid hide
yeah but he is only 2 months old so do ya think he will try to escape to freedom if ya know what i mean?
-
The ball ?? even if he does......haha he wont get far ;) just as long as you keep an eye on him he should be just fine.
-
ok then be prepared to get some cool pics tommorow.............oh yeah my room is kinda clean :)
-
I know what you mean Brandon - I almost can't wait for my kings to get older/bigger so I can let them explore without being scared they'll take off on me. Right now my bp is the only one that goes outside and he also gets to explore my room a bit and is allowed on the living room floor. Last weekend I let me late 2002 corn on the floor in my boyfriends computer room (it's a small amount of floor space and he has little furniture and no spots for snakes to hide) to see how he'd do. But for now my kings just get to zigzag through my fingers and go up my arms, etc.
-
i just am kinda scared cuz he is so small he is only 2 months(well 3 months on sunday hehe) and i just don't want him to get hurt but he seems to be one of the calmest lil thing i hve ever met(since he is the only ball python i hve ever met lol)

Maybe put the sheet down and make some kind of barriers and/or hides for him to go into if he wants - rather than a giant wide open space. Might make him feel more comfortable, and give you an idea as to how well he does and how fast/slow he is in a smaller area.
-
hey can u think of any barriers i have no clue what to use.
-
I dunno. Maybe if you have a spare cardboard box that's a good size, you could cut the bottom out of it, and then cut out a side that would face you. Then you could sit on your bed and have the box on the bed, with the open part facing you. That way there's a decent amount of open space, but he can't really take off on you unless he jumps a cardboard box side real fast.
Or if you have a lot of pillows on your bed like me, you could just stack some pillows on the edges and make a little barrier that way.
Other than that, I dunno. :)
-
Why would you want to make barriers?
-
He's afraid snakey will see freedom and make a run...er, slither for it. :)
I myself don't think you'll need to worry about that though. Unless you have an unusually hyper and squirmy bp, he should be calm and just explore a bit. You'll probably get this barrier up and everything, watching him like a hawk, then you'll put him down, and he'll slowly check things out. Then you'll feel silly for worrying so much. But hey, better safe than sorry I guess. If you really think he's gonna take off on you super fast where you won't be able to grab him, then go the barrier way if you wish. ;)
-
Ball Pythons aren't as quick as you would think.
Just sit him down next to you.
He'll probably balled up for a good 10 minutes.
Always watch your snake, you should be find without barriers.

For his own peace of mind. You could use pillows, books, boxes with openings so he can hide in if he wants, etc. Like I said they're slow so I wouldn't really worry - although making the space not so open and 'scary' to him might help. But I understand your a little worried so do what makes you feel better. After the first time, you'll get a feel for his speed, etc and will know your own comfort level for the next time you let him out. :)

alright i will do that this afternoon because i have now been told the difference between party bulbs and re[tile bulbs and i am in serious need of one. man i really didn't know it could stress the snake out. i am still a lil fuzzy on why it does but i am getting one anyway.
-
Make sure if you're getting an infared bulb.
Its true red glass. Go to Petco, they don't sell party bulbs :P
-
um no petco petsmart or pet land in walking distance so i am going tommorow or day after tommorow.
-
I let Roo chill on my bed all the time. I'm also on a top bunk, so unless she's feeling remarkably stupid, she won't get anywhere near the edge of it.
I'm very careful outside with her, I live in an apartment complex with quite a few senior citizens and I don't want to scare them. :P
-
man i hope my bp is kinda smart and doesn't get the stupid idea of bujee jumping off my bed with out a rope
-
sometimes it's not stupidity, just clumsiness.. roswell has fallen off of me while climbing around (not too far a fall though).. i think thats why he stays on the ground instead of his tree. any barier you build a bp would most likely be able to get out of unless it's an aquarium with a top secured..even then they seem to escape those too. either way you would have to keep an eye on him.
