Great video with a lot of answers to questions I have. One thing I'd like to ask is how would you compare the last male SD or ones like I'm in the video, to Bredli, Inland, Jungle or Coastal carpet python?

Are the carpets as active and intelligent? Sizewise a 6-7 foot snake is really nice.

I love my Barranquilla, Colombian boa and find him quite active and curious. My son's royal python is really pretty boring. She's nice but not exciting at all.

If I were to ever add a 3rd snake, a SD retic, carpet or Mussurana would probably be on the list.

Bredlii and Coastal will be among the larger of the subspecies for carpet pythons. While I do not work directly with the Bredlii I do and have worked with Jungles, Coastals, Inland, and Irian Jaya. . .

Carpet pythons are pretty great feeders, and will put away food like no ball python ever wood. Inside the cage, some have cage aggression (mainly when younger), but are docile when you remove them from the cage. Same can be said for many retics (SD). Carpets are a lot less flighty. I can pull out my adult Coastal girl and put her on my chair while I Clean her cage, and she won't go far if anywhere, very slow moving, but fast striking in contrast... Carpets will get on the heavier side for the Coastals and well fed Jungles. Inland and IJ are going to be the smaller of the bunch, but IJ's are known to be fairly heavy bodied (mine are still quite young, turning two in may). I would say the Carpets make a great transition snake, but they don't add that much wow factor. SD's if you want pure, of course, also don't add much to the eye (Albino carpets though . . . wow! love them) but they are a lot more fun handling. Again, albeit a lot more flighty.

So let it be to your own opinion. Carpets are awesome simply because 1) they are australian, 2) they have lots of mutations now, 3) they are easily attainable and affordable, 4) slow moving outside of the cage, and 5) they feed extremely well.

SD retics are awesome because 1) they watch everything, as if they are making their mind up about whats happening around them, 2) they are still a retic 3) feeding them will get your heart going some days, 4) it steps up your snake handling game and keeps you more interactive, and of course 5) they feed extremely well once started.

You would not go wrong in either direction you choose to go. If you go with a Carpet, let me suggest you look into Psychotic exotics and AC Reptiles. If you want to get pure locals that come from the best German lines from some of the last australian imports, you need to hit up Nick Mutton from inland reptiles. I have 5 snakes from him, and they are all excellent. And he literally wrote the book on the Complete Carpet Python. . .

If you go with SD - I should have 75% SD's available end of this year (Platty het Anery, het anery, anery, and Platty anery). But if you want pure, check out Travis Kubes, Jason Reed, and if in a bind, Prehistoric Pets (they cost more, but I actually just got my shipment from them, and I have to say, wow... what was in the box was pure amazingness)

    Thanks for the answers,

Sounds like a carpet is a good bet for me. I'm not up for chasing things around LOL!

Although a pure SD sounds fun. I'm not a morpher at all so I'd be fine with Mother Nature's colors.

Retic in the box?? From P/P??

Awesome video man. I'm pretty new to retics. I have a 50% sd tiger and a 50% jamp pplatinum. It'svideos like this that really clear up a lot of questions In regards to size. And seeing you actually hold them gives everything perspective. Top notch sir, thank you.

Also being new, what morph is that you just purchased?

The new snake is an Anthrax. And yep, I was there trying to figure out sizing like you. And I tried to figure out exactly what could help people visualize what these snakes are like. For reference I am 6'3".

Have an update with my other dwarf tics coming hopefully later today.

Hey Cody, if you havent already filmed the second part with your dwarf albino female. Could you take about a 6-12" (inch) step back from the camera for a better size reference? The kalatoa male that got pretty large took me for a suprise. Still looking for a SD female that i can pair with my dwarf albino het GS but no luck still. Also, i think i have a hard time looking at them and guessing how large they are so i really appreciate when you say what you guesstimate them to be :gj:.

Cheers. I Just Finished Recording More Footage. This time with the biggest snakes in my collection. As well as a bonus clip I'll throw up that is an adult coastal carpet and adult woma python showing how they handle and size wise. I don't have too much room to back up and show full body size. I'm recording these in my office and have about 10 ft of clearance. Can go for a wider lens but distortion alone will make them visually look off

On its way live. Should be viewable within the next hour or so! Sorry but the dwarfs took so much time and video I could only give a sneak peak to the woma and carpet. But I included bonus footage of the latest addition! Make sure you play all the way through.

Embedded now :-) Sorry I was on my phone earlier and taptalk wouldn't embed :-P . . .

Thanks guys! These new videos are getting a lot of great reception. I really am enjoying seeing the potential and growth habits behind these crosses. Working with so many different possibly crossings, is giving a new insight into what people can expect, remove marketing from the mix and try and shoot as straight as possible. I hope it helps someone from getting in to big, and knows what to expect in some cases being too little ;-)

lol, in this line of retics, you NEED specifics. It makes the difference. I've definitely been trying to keep this project as both a personal joy, breeding investment, and also a research into the effects on food intake and % crosses. I've developed a fantastic feeding schedule for getting this guys up and going without throwing them into obesity. And my growing data on sizes with crosses is showing consistency among those who keep them. So for me, 62.5% mainlaind, 12.5% Jampea, and 25% Kalatoa, means a lot ;-).

FWIW - the pair that produced that tiger motley was a 50% Kalatoa, 25% Jampea, 25% mainland female tiger, bred by a purple motley mainland. Thus giving us our weird numbers. But what captivates me is the fact that 25% SD in retics only seem to effect the mass, but not the length as that girl is about what I expect mainlands to be length wise from similar age. in contrast a 25% dwarf Burmese cross, from breeding a half dwarf female to a normal male, yields a 2 year old Burmese that is as big as a ball python female . . . Seriously . . . I think I'll tack him in to my next video!

I use to hate anthrax but it grew on me over the last couple of years now that I've seen variation and combos. The other one growing on me is citron / titanium ;) if that's any insight to what's in my next box.

Sorry for the tease at the end! hah I really hate making YouTube videos longer than 10 minutes. And try to aim for 7

I'll have to look up the Citron/Titanium and other combos, its all still new to me. Haha ya the end was a bit of a teaser, but hey I know its on its way. Would love to see the dwarf burm too, I didn't even know they existed until I read it in a post on here a while back, which I'm pretty sure you commented on.

Alright just spent some time looking at the Citron and the Titanium...WOW, the Titanium looks awesome, the eyes just jump at you, I was also scrolling through some other morphs and came across onother one that was just jaw dropping, which I'm sure means its really really expensive, it was a Sunfire Purple Albino Golden Child.

Yeah the first goldenchild 50% SD het albinos are selling for about 2500-3000 right now. Jampea 50% goldenchild hets like mine sold for 1500 last season and only one person produced them, Jake Klotz
