While we were at Myrtle Beach we couldnt resist the temptation in the absence of a herp show, to swing by the nearest tourist trap (Alligator Adventure) to see what we could see. Other than the requisite acres of assorted crocs gators and caiman we hit the reptile house glad to be out of the heat and I managed to snap a few pics. The glass was all smeared with little sunblock handprints so not all of them came out :(

And coming out to the parking lot I ran into this shiny little arachnid I have yet to ID.
There were plenty of others that didnt come out well including a 15' AfRock slung up in a tree - unfortunately a full 1/3 of the exhibits had no identifying plaques for casual observers. All in all though I see much better pics of more well cared for herps from you guys here!

wow! awesome pics. :D i really like the way you get nice tight shots and close ups. very nice. nice job photographing through the glass too--that can be quite a challenge. my favorites are the GTP's and the Leaftail Gecko. i may have to swing by there next time i'm up that way. 8)

i agree. We went on vacation in July and caought the herp show. The guy said that a boa wasn't the best snake for a pet because it could get 13 0r 14 feet and something to the effect of eat a person. When I asked if it was a bcc or bci, after the show, he got snappy and said that it was a red tail boa and i told him ours was, also, but he was a bci and that he wouldn't get as large as a bcc. he wouldn't answer and i was just curious. the thing that upset me was my 7 year old asked why he didn't tell everyone to wash their hands after handling the snake and petting it....RULE #1 in our house, and he said you should know tho wash your hans after touching and pet. Snappy with a 7 year old was unprofessional. I thought the hand washing was a good question, and had no idea that Hunter was going to ask, but my husband told me it was time to go after he was ugly to Hunter.............we went to the restroom and washed our hands!
-
that's terrible. it's great that they have these shows to help educate people about reptiles, but it defeats the purpose when the person presenting the animals isn't really very educated himself. he was way out of line to snap at your son. unbelievable.
-
Yeah, you gotta love those snake-keeping "professionals" who cram a bunch of snakes in one too-small cage with no hide and a dry waterbowl, and then strut around their pet shop telling you that they own a few rattlesnakes and a black mamba. Hah!
Nice pics there. I love your captions!

Nice pics!
Ahhhh...... Myrtle Beach.....last time there I came home w/ a son :)
-
The husbandry at Alligator Adventure actually appeared to be quite good. There were no thermometers or hygometers visible, so I can't speak to that, but all of the reptiles had ample room to move about and generously sized water dishes - even the giants. The enclosures were similar to what you would find at a zoo, and the animals appeared quite healthy.
Jody, if the last time you were in Myrtle Beach you came home with a son, it's been too long since you've been there!
-
are u serious?!
Hey if you went and came home w/ a son wouldn't you stay away for a while ??? :)
We were gonna go this year but my son wanted to check out Ocean City so we just got back from a week there.
( The offical summer my son discovers girls ) UGH!!!!!!

it is at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle. Have fun! The kids loved the place, ofcourse, Todd packed the digital camera and not the charger. We took pics on a disposable, haven't gotten them yet.

JCP (jungle carpet python) BEAUTIFUL snake!

Wow - thanks for all the positive responses, folks (and gettign the SOL reference steelsack lol). The place was called Alligator Adventure ( http://www.alligatoradventure.com/ ) - and finding the parking lot tucked way back in Barefoot Landing was maybe the most challenging part. The only part I found really annoying was the voice-overs in the reptile house that were done in a awful attempt at an Aussie accent - but I'm betting they got the same dude who does all the Medieval Times schlock.

Jody, I'm right there with you. Our 14 year old, who will be a high school freshman starting tomorrow, is now dating a 16 year old girl who drives. In addition, he has a girl his own age (who he was talking to for about a week before he met the 16 year old) who now calls and crys and whines because she still loves him and misses him. I found a text message on his phone from the 16 year old lastnight that said "Can't wait to be back in your arms again."

Yeah I'd have to agree. My mom was snoopy too! :P

I wasn't actually being that snoopy. It's my cell phone, he just uses it as his own. When I picked it up, there were all these messages waiting. Of course, none of them were for me.
