Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
I bought it to raise the humidity in Marcie's terrarium, and I've been using it for about a week now, turning it on for 20 minutes twice a day. It's been alright, I know Marcie loves it. She always comes out whenever I turn it on.
I can still tell the substrate is drying out though, but not as quickly. I use EcoEarth. Was thinking about covering up more of the screen top, since I have only covered about half of it.
The "Zoo Med HygroTherm Humidity and Temperature Controller" was recommended alongside the humidifier so I'm thinking about getting that as well, might keep it more humid.
Does anyone else have one/have thoughts about the product?

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
I've only seen one person use it and he had to refill the water bottle once a day. Said it worked great for him. IMO- it seems overpriced if I have to refill it every day. But it depends on relative humidity I supose. Not sure if the zoomed hygro/thermostat is any good but the proper herpstat would definitely be worth the price.
There was also someone who just did a fogger converstion to a humidifier, if I find it I'll post the link to the thread.

If 20 minutes twice a day isn't enough you could pick up a little timer at home depot or somewhere. each little button you press on the timer is 15 minutes. so if 20 minutes twice a day isn't enough you could try 15 4 times or 5 times or however many times till you find a happy medium.

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
I own one. May I suggest using a 2 liter bottle instead of the 1 liter that comes with it. i use a two liter bottle, the spout attaches onto 2 liter the same as the 1 liter.

I was also looking at the AcuRite humidity moniter, but the price is cheap and I'm afraid the product will be cheap as well. I've heard both good and bad things about it.
I'm thinking about bumping up the time to an hour twice a day to see how that fares. Maybe switch the substrate as well? If I switch to aspen bedding, then I will for sure have to get a thermostat for the UTH (shame on me for not having one already).
If you can't tell, I'm not that experienced with snakes :( Marcie is my first one, and even though I've had her for a year next month and have been researching constantly, I'm still clueless.

If you're talking about the Acu-rite hygrometer that you can pick up at Walmart, I've been using them for years, and have never had a problem with them. I think I still have the original 4 or 5 that I bought back in 2008. They've never skipped a beat.

Dang, that's pretty impressive. I'll pick one up today! Where do you place yours? In the cool or warm side?

I use a tub and rack system, so I place mine in the front of the tub. I use a temp gun to monitor the warm spot in the back. I use the Acu-rite to give me a basic air temp and humidity level. Basically, if I can do a quick look and see that my humidity and air temp in the front (cool end) of the tub are good, then I can be pretty certain that things in the back of the tub are ok.
It looks like this:

EDIT: This photo was taken when I was stationed in Virginia. Now that I'm back in Florida where the humidity is higher, I use a much smaller water bowl.

Oh I see! What temp gun do you use? I want a really good one, but not so pricey.
I used to live in South Carolina so they humidity levels were great in my snake's terrarium, but now that I'm in Washington state, it's hell
Thanks for helping, by the way!

Very welcome! This is the temp gun I've been using for the last 3 years. It's just like a hammer; brutally simple and works every time ;)

Lol. I know what you mean. The highest my balls humidity gets is 40% in winter and summer without any extra help and sometimes it even got up to 90% in there during spring(not sure if it still does, haven't had my girl that long).

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
I see in your tub you have some sort of paper towel for a substrate. What is it exactly?

Oh jeez. I don't like the humidity in SC but I do miss not having to worry about the humidity in my snake's terrarium. Her substrate stayed fairly moist through the month, and now it dries out in about a week or two. Can't seem to get the levels higher than 40% or so. Might try putting a damp towel over the screen lid.

i have one. i bought it a week after i got my BP because i realized the humidity was almost nonexistent while i was at work. misting before/after work didn't cut it.
i do have to say that i had to do two exchanges on mine. the first one couldn't control the output; it was on max setting regardless of which way you spun the knob. the second one buzzed so loud you could hear it clear across the house even with the door closed. every now and again this third one will buzz but i learned to ignore it and it stops after a few seconds. it seems like a common problem since the reviews on amazon consisted of the same defects i had.

the one liter bottle that it came with lasts almost a week for me, but there are so many factors that might affect that.

i have the exoterra dual outlet timer but i finally decided to switch to a digital one. 15 minutes is way too long to have the fogger running in my tank. my poor BP looks like he's suffocating. with the digital timer i set it to go off for five minutes every half hour (i'm in the desert so zero humidity all day). bought mine here: http://www.grainger.com/product/LEVI...rchQuery=6PFY4 i originally wanted this one: http://www.grainger.com/product/TORK...rchQuery=6WPA0 but it was gonna take a day to get and i wanted instant gratification.

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
I use the Repti Fogger and the HygroTherm. Both work great for me. I did have to replace the fogger because the first one quit working, but that was because I didn't use distilled water. I only use distilled water now, and I haven't had any problems since.
As for the HygroTherm, it's been pretty accurate. I have two light canopies on my tank, and the HT is connected to one of them to control air temp. Obviously the fogger is connected to the HT as well.

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
Hi guys! A few tips to get the best use out of your foggers...
Use distilled or RO water whenever possible. Minimizes build up on the glass (if it's a glass enclosure), and greatly reduces buildup inside the fogger itself. Rinse it/run it with some white vinegar every couple months if you're in an area with lots of minerals in your water; some areas are worse for this than others.
The fans can go out; just email or call ZooMed and they'll send you a new one no problem. They're EXTREMELY helpful, so just give ZooMed a call!
We use 10 of them in our frog room, and I have 3 at home, plus another at work and the girls in the office use a couple too. They're one of my top 5 favorite products because they're so helpful for maintaining humidity in anything that's not a desert species. I highly recommend putting them on a basic timer with 30 minute intervals - I usually run mine for my day geckos and tree boas for 2 hours in the morning, 3x 30 min during the day, and then another 2 hours again at the end of the day right before the lights flick off. For ball pythons, you probably would only need the morning and evening runs, but it makes it a LOT easier to maintain humidity to just have it run on a timer.
I fill up water bottles roughly every other day; for the 30 seconds it takes me to fill up water bottles, I feel the investment in the foggers and consistency for my animals is worth that time every day. :)
Let me know if you guys have more questions about the foggers - I've probably experienced every single problem you could have with them and can help!

To those who have a Reptifogger, how do you secure the plastic hose to the top of your snake's terrarium? I have tried to position it, but it almost always falls over. I want to use something that can come off easily so it's not much of a hassle when I remove the screen top, so tape is not an option for me (it just gets in the way).

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
You can take a bit of stiff wire, even a section of a wire coathanger (unless you've got a Mommy Dearest hangup) and bend about 1/2 in back into a tight hook. Secure the hook over the lip of the hose, extending a few inches in. Bend the hose and hook to matching shapes, and it should hang pretty securely.

Great idea! Thank you so much :D

Another idea, either in conjunction with the above idea or used in a different way, is to take the hose to home depot and find a PVC fitting that fits it. That way you have something sturdy to connect to, instead of that hose which is rather easily crushed.

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
Here's a pic of the way I set mine up. I had an extra hose from my first RF. I cut the hose in half and connected the factory ends to a T piece from a small volume nebulizer. The hoses are 5/8 inside diameter, and the T piece fit perfectly. That's an ExoTerra Compact top canopy. If you want to do something like this, I can point you in the right direction.

I actually cut out a hole in the petco screen top and just stuck it in that way.

I'm worried that if I do that, then my snake will escape, even though I know there's no way she could fit through a hole that small. I'm too damn paranoid.

Re: Just bought a Zoo Med Reptifogger
Lol I made it almost the exact size of the tube. So snug he couldn't even push it out if he tried.

If you take a scrap from a pair of hose or a stocking, you can put it over the end of the fogger hose, secured with a rubber band. After that, put the end through the screen top and put another rubber band on the other side of the screen to prevent it from being pushed back out.
You can use small zip ties instead of rubber bands, just make sure you smooth out any sharp edges when you cut off the excess.
