I just recently got my bp and i'm still letting it settle in. My bp is very active at night and really likes to use his hides during the day. I haven't seen him bathe yet, but i have seen him drink.

i was wondering how all of your bp's were, when settling in their new homes. how did they act?

when i first brought nellie home she spent hours exploring the tank and everything in it. after the first night she settled down and started using her hides, which now i am lucky to catch her out of. i have yet to see her soak or drink. she pretends to be shy until i get her out at which point she is crawling through my hair and down my shirt and all over me. :D

my BP is still like that. hides at night, then will come out at night and sit on his little tree, then go back and hide

Keep in mind, Royal/Ball Pythons are nocturnal.
The sleep/hide during the day, and come out to explore late at night, or early morning to some :P

Boo reacts the same way as your BP is. Right now she is settling in to her new home too, and she is out mostly at night exploring her tank or climbing on her new climby thingy. During the day she is mostly in her hides, though she will come out sometimes for alittle exploring, or maybe she will sit up on the climby thing for an hour or 2.

I don't know how she'll settle yet. I should be able to tell you within a day or two. FINALLY getting my bp tommorrow afternoon. I'm so excited my stomach is in knots....sounds weird but this is something I've been wanting for years(always wanted a snake) and just 4 months ago I decided on a ball. So yeah...probably won't sleep tonight. :)

i was giving roxy 7 days to settle in before i held or played with her but by the third day she was always out and about during the day ( i dont think she knows that she is supsed to be nocturnal) she has always been very outgoing.

First thing, most of them seem to want to explore. You'll see them enter into one hide, and then exit it and go into the other hide, then try slithering up and out of the cage, and finally they settle on a spot and curl up.

i think cody wins the gold medal by a landslide when it comes to preparedness and having done his research before getting his snake. :winner:

I agree. GOOD JOB. I just love it when someone really digs deep and does som serious research before they plunge into things. All the ball pythons i ever had behaved the same way. For the first week they hide and come out at night or peak their head out. Then they become more comfortable and they start exploring.

Wow, thanks guys! Yeah I made sure I was prepared for this. I sometimes still have doubts about whether I can handle it, but I'm sure I'll manage. I've got the tank set up perfect right now, and the snake is literally on her way from Toronto. A neighbor offered to pick her up since he and his kids were going to Toronto for a fair and to see some relatives. So in about an hour or two I'll have her in my hands finally. Can't wait.

Sorry for taking this thread off subject. We can get back to the topic. I'll post how Pelota settles in later. ;)
