BITE. CLUB. Hola!
I don't know where the actual "club" is (there should really be a section! If there is and I couldn't find it, well, that's embarrassing). I was officially initiated months ago by my corn snake ;) many a time. But I digress.
I was cleaning my snake's tanks today. I was going about it as a normally do, where I gradually take their decor out and start soaking it, eventually leaving behind one hide (whatever one they're in), and then remove them and hand them to my partner for the rest.
Here's what I *think* happened:
I started removing things from Beau's tank, and he heard the rustling and came out to investigate, as he normally does. I had vinegar water on my hands, I didn't see him behind some fake plants and a large log, and all of a sudden a felt a prick and saw him pull back. I noticed water on his head, so I must have dripped it on him - either that, or he got some on him himself when he bit me.
I was also going back and forth between his tank and my corn snake's tank, so I'm sure her smell was on me.
He didn't do it again, and I can't really say that it bled... I was just kind of shocked. He's never struck at anyone before, not even the breeder I got him from (apparently).

Clearly, I am going to live.
He's about 7 months old, and I've had him for 5.
I think I just got careless, because he's never done that before. I also forgot that he's not like my corn snake, where when she hears rustling she hides. He investigates and wants to know what's up. I feel pretty silly for that :P
Do you guys ever get tagged when cleaning??
Thanks for looking!

Provided you sucked the venom out. Remember... SUCK, LICK, RINSE, REPEAT.
Doing so, I guarantee you'll have at most a 40% chance of survival.

See I didn't think he thought it was food time, because he didn't strike and wrap like he does every time he eats. He also ate 2 and a half days ago... but maybe he did get excited and think I was food! He probably couldn't see me either. :P

I'm willing to bet you just startled him. If it were a feeder bite, you might actually be bleeding.
I got 'clipped' by one of my BPs after I had a brain fart on feeding day. While only her upper right jaw cut into my finger, I had blood trickling down to my wrist, and I'd compare this to being cut by glass.
Defensive bites are more like be savagely attacked...
With velcro.
On another note, I'm only unofficially in the bite club because despite getting tagged I-don't-know-how-many-times, I haven't taken a single picture. :/

the only adult bp to bite me is due to lay eggs any day now- actually overdue (49 days today)
her and a few other frisky adults get fed first before the snake room starts smelling of rats on feeding day.
its going to be fun taking the eggs..... not!!

I definitely think it was a defensive bite as well. Although, he's still young (around 300g at best), so I can't imagine very much blood would come. But he is a monster at feeding...
I wish I had taken photos of when my corn used to bite! She was worse than this, and only 75g! Now we're buds. And she's going to be a model in a fashion show. :P

Re: BITE. CLUB. Hola!
Don't let the media find out about this. The last thing we need is another story about a vicious snake attack...
-
Bites happen some times unfortunately :tears: But welcome to the club!!! You passed initiation with flying colors :salute: :P
-
Initiation into the ball python bite club ;)
Truthfully, the corn snake was worse. LOL!

Once again, you're lucky to be alive.

Or IS SHE? Maybe the venom has induced her into becoming... the undead?:O

Re: BITE. CLUB. Hola!
Ha ah you guys are funny..... Sorry to be off topic, but I have to share..
I have a large blue and gold macaw. When he bites, he literally scoops out flesh - really terrible bites that leave scars. So.....
I belong to a few online bird forums, and some people are whining because they're little tiny bird bit them, and they have a mere scratch. I can't help but think, I'll bring over Nimo (my macaw) and you can get a real bite, lol......

Oh my...
Ya no, I'm totally being silly here ;) which doesn't take away from the actual large python bites that really do hurt people (or more accurately in most cases, causes lots of bleeding with a small mark).

Re: BITE. CLUB. Hola!
Oh for sure, the big pythons can be devastating......I'll admire for afar, thank you very much.....

Re: BITE. CLUB. Hola!
Geez OP, that's a brutal bite you got there.
I'll take a bite from a ball over a greencheek conure ripping a mole off me any day.

I'm starting not to want a pet bird... especially since I was looking into greencheeks. :S

Re: BITE. CLUB. Hola!
Mine was an amateur phlebotomist. Took any opportunity to rip off a scab, mole, or other skin imperfection. One second you're being preened and fussed over, the next you're missing flesh and cussing.
Incredible little birds though. Don't let my comment dissuade you. There isn't a bird out there that will never bite. Just keep that in mind and you'll do fine.
