Curious snake?

This is a curiosity more than anything else, but I'm not one to let a mystery go unsolved. From time to time I'll notice Steve just sitting there in his enclosure, his head propped up on his water dish and staring at the wall. Initially, the pre-vet student in me was thinking 'RI', but of course, he's perfectly fine. A very healthy boy in any sense of the word. Not stargazing, not wheezing, not sneezing, not popping...

So is he just bored(or attaining enlightenment), or is there a reason for this?

Honestly, sometimes I wonder what goes on in his head.

Could be sleeping :)

My ball python does this every single day. Drapes himself in odd positions all over his decor. He normally watches the world go by out the front (PVC vive), but not always.

Ha, he's a lucky, lucky boy. I'd love to be able to sleep all day...

But then again I suppose one of us has to be the caretaker in this relationship.

Are ball pythons even capable of being bored? I figured all they're really concerned with is eating, shagging, and not getting eaten themselves...everything else is very basic instinct...:confusd:

That's so funny you posted this because my male normal does the same thing! He will slither out of his hide partially and just rest his head on a rock hide. It's so cute when he does it because to me he looks the The Thinker statue. I wonder what's going on in his head too. Probably where are all the ladies at?!? Haha

The ball pythons that have hides, are always in their hide aside from coming out at night. Allure pretty much always has his nose poking at. Wouldn't want to potentially miss out on a feeding opportunity, or at least an opportunity to beg for food. Now my boa will prop her head on the lip of the T8 and watch us. It's neat because she's not flinchy like ball pythons. I got a balloon for my birthday and my boyfriend was playing with it in front of her cage. She sat there and would turn her head to watch the balloon and him.

Sometimes I wonder.

Last year, Steve developed a Pavlovian response to the microwave timer. Since I heated water in the microwave for his f/t mice, he'd apparently learned to associate the beeping with dinner.
But then again, this is the same snake who gets lost in my hair and has occasionally tried to eat a mouse sideways, so I'm not sure.

My BEL did that last night. The only thing I can think of.. is he's hungry and wants dinner (today's feeding day.. maybe he was hoping for it early!) He sat curled up on top of his hide, watching me.

This thread is a hoot to read.

But yeah, Nessie will often sit in a coil with her head poking out from the center, using her abdomen as a pillow. And right now Izzy is curled up on top of her hide, watching me.

Wycca, my corn, loves to just drape herself over the highest branch, stretch herself out and stare at the ground. It used to scare me to death until I realized this was just her "thing".
Mara, my new BP, likes to lay on top of her hide where she can get a good view of her water dish.
