How small can males breed?

I noticed my up and coming males started to produce sperm plugs, so I figured I'd start giving them the chance to make things happen. Only took a few days for this guy to catch on:

I also got 2 more males that are similar size, haven't caught them in the act yet though. Seem to be in good condition, plump little things, producing sperm plugs, so I see no reason to be concerned. Obviously I will be monitoring them, but I do that will anything I got paired up anyways. Just seems to be quite small from what I have read. So I was curious, whats the smallest male you have had start breeding?

I will have to weigh our Pastel Calico. He is a little guy, but loves the ladies. I do know that my original DH Pied Albino was sired by a 290g male. The 290g male belonged to a friend and sired 6 clutches that year.

Heres the thing, some males might sexually mature smaller. But most ppl say breed at 500 + grams because many males won't eat while breeding. So a animal a couple hhundred grams could drop a dangerous amount of weight. I recently paired a 400 gram male, but only did so because he eats like a monster and has continued doing so while he is breeding.

6 clutches a year is impressive on it's own, what a trooper.

If it becomes a problem, I would no doubt stop and get them back to where they need to be. I guess I will find out if he's willing to eat tomorrow, along with the other 2. All 3 eat great.

had that prob with my butter he was just over 500 eating like a pig once I paired him up he stopped eating last I weighted he only lost like 20 grams or so he was down to like 495 or something but I stopped pairing him and he still wont eat been like 2 months .. my other guy I threw in to complete the job is slamming what ever I throw his was ... its the most annoying thing .. anyways I was just reading a article with a 395g 5 months getting the job done

If he locks up with females he is probably ready. Just take it easy on the smaller ones because balls can breed themselves to death. He might die with a huge smile and a cigarette in his mouth but he wont be much use to you then.

I just weighed our Pastel Calico. He is 425g now, so he was definitely under 400g when he started breeding. He is still eating small rats every 5 days.

From what I know the males can breed at any size as long as they're willing and their hemipenes are fully developed.

I heard somewhere that the youngest "recorded" was 45 days. But like Turkey said, I would imagine as long as their hemipenes are developed and they're producing plugs than they can go...

My pastel boy locked for me the first time a little over a week ago. He wasn't locking when I put him in, and read a tip about spraying them, so I put him in her enclosure, sprayed the crap out of them to erk them, came home from work and wouldnt you know it, they were locked up. And are currently again as I type this :) I had tried everything before putting in with other males, rubbing another male's sperm plugs on the females back, none of it worked except spraying. But who knows, maybe it was just coincidental.

Duuude!! worked like a charm! put them in this AM, soaked 'em nice n good and came home to this! whoever gave u this info is sheer genius!

My smallest breeder male was 9 month old 375 gram spinner, he would breed a wooden spoon if you put him a tub with one.
