Odd somewhat embarrassing question

Ok let me pretense this by saying it was a debate my husband and I had tonight and now I am curious to the correct answer.

1. Does it effect my snakes in anyway for me to hold them when I am menstruating? For instance, making them more aggressive (for obvious reasons).
2. As we are trying to get pregnant, would pregnancy hormones effect our snakes as well... I was told I would be banned from handling the snakes once I am pregnant unless I can find out for sure.

I should think that there wouldnt be an issue as snakes do not find humans to be tastey, but since I am fairly new to owning snakes, it doesnt hurt to check.

Im sorry if the topic grosses anyone out, not my intent... I really did try to find something referring to this before I posted....

Look at it this way, we as humans don't mate with snakes, and neither do they. Our hormones for the most part are incompatible and don't affect each other.

Never any reason to be embarrassed about asking a legitimate question, and to be brutally honest, your husband needs to quit listening to the witch doctor and come back in to the village with everyone else...

Your cycle with be completely unnoticed by your snakes. Any pregnancy hormones would not even be recognized by your snakes because they are human hormones, not reptilian.

In fact, since it has been shown that interacting with a pet is proven to lower blood pressure and decrease stress, you should make the argument to your husband that it is, in fact, beneficial for you to handle your snakes during the afore mentioned times. ;)

No and no. I've had 2 babies while owning my girl. You just need to be cautious before and after getting pregnant, well anytime about the possibility of salmonella. The easiest way to not get it is keep cages clean. I wear gloves when I clean my enclosures. That way I don't have to worry aand I wash my hand then use purell afterwards.

I think his main concern was the smell of the blood... but i held both of the snakes today for ab an hour each and they were happy and chill just stealing my warm.

When my wife was pregnant she was told to handle the snakes by her Dr due to the amount of stress she was under at the time. The way it came about was we were in the ER one day and her Dr was the one on call. She was having a lot of issues and was put on bed rest within the first 3 months of the pregnancy so we had many visits to the ER. The doc came in and checked her out and we started talking about ways to lower her stress. He asked when she was most relaxed and she said it was while holding a specific snake we had which was her favorite but since she was pregnant she didn't think it was a good idea to handle them at all. The doc literally laughed for about 5 minutes at that and then told her that there is no harm what so ever in handling a snake while pregnant and the only animal that is an issue is cats and with them it is only the litter box. So he said go ahead and handle the snake and relax. After that we had far less visits to the ER. So it actually helped her pregnancy.

In general snakes don't seek the scent of blood like we think of sharks doing...(Great Whites can detect something like 1 part per billion)...snakes (general statement in particular regards to constrictors) zoom in on body heat as a primary method of hunting/detection.
