    Bp.net co-founder dead.
I'm making another one of my rare appearances to just let the word out that my co-founder of this site has passed away. His name was Jeff and he was instrumental in instructing me how to go about creating the kind of site I wanted to make. I met him in 2002 back when the online reptile community was much smaller. He had webmaster experience with the content management system I wanted to use and he helped me through the steps to set it up. Then later on he became the web designer for a lot of our different changes and he was critical to getting this website off the ground. He ran a separate website and the competition to outgrow him pushed me to drive traffic here until it became practically a self sustaining community, one of the absolute best you can find actually and I'm proud it still exists and grows. I eventually left here and handed off the reigns to expand into what I hoped would be an even larger community focusing on all reptiles, with Jeff as my partner. I gave up the effort early on because of outside life and hung up most of my involvement with the reptile community online. I stayed friends with Jeff throughout the years and talked to him every couple of months. I have a good idea what was happening in his life and even though I don't have specifics I have an idea what lead to his death. I'm not going to expand on that a whole lot. It's very safe to say that without his influence this site would not exist. We've all played our roles in growing this community, especially the people who improved, expanded, and continue to maintain this site in the long years since I've left. I just wanted to drop in and let you guys know, it's an appropriate sendoff.

That is a very sad loss to our community. I hope he was happy with the way this site was and the way it will continue to be when he left this world. We all owe him thanks for this awesome community. May he rest in peace.

"We are like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants. We see more, and things that are more distant, than they did, not because our sight is superior or because we are taller than they, but because they raise us up, and by their great stature add to ours."–Isaac Newton

Came to my mind immediately after reading this post; we are indebted to such individuals who, through their vision, crafted a better community that we are honored to be a part of.

Many times it's the most visible people in any community who are given the lion's share of the credit for doing big things for that community. Within the ball python community it's people like Kevin McCurly and the big breeders who stand in the spotlight, while people like Jeff and yourself are largely overlooked. It can't be overstated what a huge impact the two of you have had on the industry and the community at large. This site has done so much for us all, whether it's answering our Noob questions, giving us a place to display our collections, or giving us the inspiration to create the next incredible morph. I hope that somewhere, he can see what an amazing difference he's made.

If you're close enough to his family to pass it along, please let them know what kind of greatness he achieved, and thank them for me if you could. And thank you as well.
