    1200g Fast
    Hey guys,

I was just wondering how long have these fasts lasted for some of you? I just thought I'd get a rough average so I can maybe get some reassurance from it if this goes for awhile. My girl hasn't eaten for a month and two weeks. She was on frozen and didn't eat so i got her a live rat and now I've had the live rat for 3 weeks because she's not eating that either. She seems scared of it. I was told about pithing but do i actually smear brains on the live rat? if she doesn't eat it what do i do? so just thought i'd ask for a rough estimate of fasting time.

Mine decided it's feeding time after 7 weeks ;) And it's possible it can last even months :3

Its ranged from 1-6 months for me.
Just monitor weight and keep offering food regularly.

Both of my BP's haven't eaten since November. I try to feed them every 3 weeks or so but they wont take it. Its not the first time its happened, though. Seems to happen this time of year, for me at least. I recently took them to the vet for a routine check up and mentioned they weren't eating. He almost laughed saying its totally normal (assuming their enclosure was up to par).

I say check your temps and humidity to make sure its ok and monitor their weight. Other than that, I say don't worry.. As for the rat, either return it to the pet store (I doubt they'll give you a refund now) or get yourself a small cage to house it. This has happened to me as well. LOL...

We have had a het pied female hit 1500 grams and then boom off feed. She went 13 months before she started eating again and now she is close to 2000 grams. Welcome to ball pythons!

Megz, you might just have a trouble eater-- I see updates to her eating threads whenever I turn around! lol. Just keep offering, she'll eat when she's hungry.

Usually my BP's go for about a 3 month fast or so starting in November or so. But this year I have 2 BP's that have been on a fast since September, which makes it about 6 months now and still going. I've found that when temperatures where I live dip enough where I see morning frost outside during the Fall months, that's when my BP's usually decide to start their fasts regardless of what temperatures or humidity I've kept their cages at (it's really weird, I know:weirdface). I've offered them both live and F/T rats of appropriate size every 2 weeks just to see if maybe they would eat, but they want nothing to do with either of them. The best advice I can offer is to patiently wait, make sure her environment temps and humidity are up to par, offer her food every so often when you see appropriate, weigh her to make sure they don't lose too much weight, and wait just wait it out till she decides that one glorious day to finally start eating again. :) Best of Luck!

Oh ok I'm feeling much better now thanks everyone :) her temps are 87-90 hot side and 75-77 cool side. I have been offering regularly and monitoring the weight. I actually have heard it could be the time of year. Mine stopped eating at the beginning of December and then ate on December 23rd and nothing since. The problem is I have this live rat I have to keep taking care of :-/ I was told about pithing but I feel bad if my snake doesn't eat it I certainly won't want to keep it ... And I'm sure no one will want it
