Allergies

Well today I decided to separate the 50 rat pups I bought at repticon well I got hives on my hands I washed them then they went away just tingles a little bit guess I need to buy gloves to work with the rats.. Anyone else seem to be allergic to rats , I have no allergy to mice or any other animal

I get bumps or mild skin irritation when I sometimes handle the rats. But its not allergies. Its from their nails piercing my skin. Their nails are full of bacteria from walking on dirty bedding, urine, and feces. Kind of like cat scratch.

My son is allergic to rabbits, but no other animals :confuzd: it's possible. I only found this out when we took him to an asthma/allergy specialist when he was really young. We had a bunny at the time, which he didn't interact with a whole lot because he was so little, but they tested him for a bunch of "domestic" animals because my mom has dogs and cats, and the rabbit won. I've never heard of anyone being allergic to rabbits before. Our rabbit is now fat and happy and living at a day care where he's spoiled and named Mr. Wiggles lol.

Had guinea pigs when I was a kid and was fine. Turn 18 and handle a guinea pig, I break out in hives. Rabbits make me sneeze a little bit now too.

Crazy never new i had any reaction to rats I've handled rats in the past nothing but this was almost 10 years ago now i touch them minutes later i have minor hives on my hands

I'm allergic to rabbits, mice, rats, all the little furry things. Although the skin irritation that you're speaking of sounds like irritation from their claws.

I also get hives from their nails when handling them but my breeder rats are also pets so I still handle them lol. I wash my hands and arms with HOT water and soap after, it helps with the itching for me. On cleaning days I have to wear a respirator to help with the dander and dust from the bedding or I sneeze like crazy and end up getting sore throat from sneezing so much

I'm allergic too. The itch is awful, but so worth it. I still have plans to get two females when I'm able to.

Okay, wasn't sure if you had never had the bedding around before or not.
