Got him at a reptile show and they seemed to not have enough info on his feeding. so I let him get used to his viv for a few days and decided to try to feed him frozen thawed last night on wednesday. took him 2 seconds and he latched on and and did the death squeeze. now tofigure out how to post pics on this forum :3

Good looking little guy. Give him some more time to settle in and digest that meal before stressing due to handling.

Congrats! I just picked up my first (two) as well. Did you happen to get it at the Manchester Reptile show? Some great snakes there at great prices. The lizards and frogs were impressive too.

I love seeing this. So many people are use to seeing the retail pet shop prices then they go to an expo and see the real world prices. The better prices can even be found from local breeders that just love the hobby.:gj::gj:

Yes, it's an eye opener. I was shopping at chain stores for a bumblebee before finding this site. When I learned of the reptile show in December, I decided to wait. I spent the next six weeks researching vendors listed on the shows website and made a few visits to some.

I ended up up buying my late hatch 2013 bumblebee AND a Caramel Albino for a total price -$50 of just the bumblebee at my local PetCo. And I had a large selection to choose from.

Great deals on supplies too. I paid $18 for a clamping heat lamp at PetSmart on sale. One vendor had the same brand and size for $7. The thermostats I bought were $28 cheaper each.

Unfortunately, most people (like me) don't find sites like this and learn about breeders and shows, etc until after we get into the hobby

Or have a problem due to lack of knowledge of store employees.

The snakes and other reptiles are usually in much better shape, too.

Awesome ball python! Best ever when they eat for you no problem.
I think you'll be just fine, since you have garters :) I mean, yes they are different, but you have experience nonetheless.

(I will be going to a show this Sunday... thinking of coming home with something. *Hoping* for a neon blue california red sided garter! Yeah right. Not where I live...)

    Best of luck to you!

Was the guy trying to get a quick fix or what? I understand reptile shows have cheaper prices, but this is just ridiculous. I'm not going to start on the BP market thing... :/

Although it was worded a little weird. I believe he's saying for the price of the bumblebee at Petsmart he got a Caramel Albino and a bee but spent $50 less at the show.

Sure, a "quick fix" that I planned for six weeks, set up two enclosures weeks ahead, was able to include the whole family and buying two snakes now instead of having to delay a second purchase later. This and haven driven twice two hours roundtrip to one breeder and an hour and a half to another before the show date.

Guess I'm a sucker for marketing and the only person that has wanted wanted two BP's.

I don't think you understood what I was referring to.

From your initial post it seemed like you bought both BPs for $50 bucks at a show. And I was making a joke about how the seller needed a quick fix.

Ok. Understood. I paid $50 less for the two morphs than I would of paid for the single morph.

Bookmark your calendar for April 19 to stock up on supplies and frozen mice/rats. The show returns.

Every time i see someone interested in the petsmart/petco snakes i refer them to a breeder or expo if there serious about getting one. There usually blown away that they almost spent 89.99 on a $15-20 normal ball or the 599.99 albino!!!!

I'd have to say that even reptile-dedicated seller websites, though lower than the pet stores, price higher than BP-only breeders (which I didn't know until we started looking for our second). It's also nice to know that our potential seller lives, breathes, and cares A LOT about his snakes.
