pick this up for about $10 from target so far best tub purchase ever! made by Rubbermaid and so far I've seen they have 2 sizes.http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps9461db6d.pnghttp://i958.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse44754ba.png

I saw those too, but I wondered about how secure they are. How tightly does the front close? I would worry about a larger snake being able to get out, but man does that look cool for littler snakes.

Id say 5.00 in extra parts and it be snake proof but right now a snake can open the front

You can easily modify it to be escape proof. That's a great find!

The gecko people have been using this for a while. It looks like a great cheap enclosure!
    Nice pick up.

They have a small, a medium, and a large, I believe. I have considered this option for my BPs for a long time now, I'm still working on a snakeproof prototype in my mind. Would love to try it out.

very cool, do they come in bigger sizes? curious what one would do to make it snake proof? drill some holes and use some kind of fastener or lock?

The large is approx. 67qt, if I remember my calculations correctly. However, it does sacrifice floor space for vertical. And I'm thinking a few deadbolts would do the trick, but I kinda wanna, get my hands on one to try it out.

My immediate though was a hook and eye closure on each side, just glued or riveted near the top. Unless the plastic is really bendy, that would probably work.

all those will work but literally as of now my ball will climb up and down it and cant get it open, when you close it it has to come up and then over a lip and then you press it down and it does almost lock you feel it grab into a snug position. i actually check all the doors on them before i bought this one and this was the one that gave me the most secure seat in the door. but you could easily wedge something (block) or what have you in between top door and tub and if they get out of that well then there is no hope

Which of these do you think could comfortably house adult BPs?

    Small:
    Size: Exterior Dimensions: 19.5” L x 17.5” W x 11.6” H

    Medium:
    Size: Exterior Dimensions: 19.5” L x 17.5” W x 15.1” H

    Large:
    Size: Exterior Dimensions: 22.0” L x 17.5” W x 15.1” H

I dunno. They seem a bit short to comfortably house a BP. Their quart sizes are amicable, though. Thoughts?

I'm excited to try this out as I've wanted an eyelash crested gecko for some time now! It'll be super space saving (:

I dont think housing a fully grown adult ball in these would be advisable from see most house in lengths of 3-4 ft or greater with tubs or tanks but you might be able to get away with it. So far perfect for my juvi balls and hognose with will be perfect for an adult.

My local Home Depot has these in several sizes/colors and IIRC some that are in a stacked combo kind of like a half height filing cabinet, I'm assuming that means the other Home Depots have them too.

hopefully more people start buying them and the demand for bigger sizes increase say maybe one day a 36Lx24Wx20H or so :D

If only we could get access to there molds and input are on dimensions lol, yeah they could take over easily with more affordable enclosures and would bring in a lot more people into the hobby. But you dont want to take jobs from the guys who already make them either... Catch 22?

I have a relatively small UTH thats set to temp through plastic and substrate just fine with no warping and the humidity seem to be a little high at first but i just drilled more holes in top and top portion of the sides and now is good. You could add soft screen cloth to top or sides pretty easy if you wanted too i will being doing that with one im setting up for lower humidity reptiles

Is your room heated for the ambient temps? Or does the UTH accomplish this?

None of them would be adequate for an adult BP.

Makes great gecko tubs though :gj:

It would also work for my eastern garters as they don't get too long and like to climb. Unfortunately they're also escape artists - much more so than my BP's - so I'm sure that I would have modify that front door to ensure that it's secure.

I played with one today at target and the front door works by 'lifting' then pulling out. If you just pull, you wouldn't be able to open it without breaking the plastic, I think, and would take a lot of force, I did test it by pulling pretty hard. Which means it would be fairly easy to secure - a small block between the top of the door and the plastic of the tub would work well to secure the door most likely.

It's a Rubbermaid All Access Organizer. If you go to Rubbermaid's web site or facebook page you can leave feedback. I asked them to make one 36" long x 18" deep.

No but I didn't expect one. Plenty of others were also asking for the same product in a larger size, so I expect they'll be on the market eventually.

It would seem logical to have for a lot of applications, i have the huge stackable storage containers and if i have three or four stacked high and need something from the bottom one then the lazy kicks in and i convince myself its not that important lol. But if i could just open the front...

    They come in various colors!
Just an FYI, black isn't the only color they come in! They come in navy and teal as well. Teal/ Navy is the smaller size. Navy/ black is the larger size. The teal is so pretty! Walmart has then in 2 pack bundles online with free in store pick up. :)
