Ok first, I'm trying to find a second thermostat, but nobody in my area even has an expensive one! And the dummy at once store, *I hate her* said they don't even exist o_O The cheapest one I can find is lllreptile.com They have Zoo-Med 500watt thermostat, which is the one I have now so I know it works. Does anyone know of a place to get one even cheaper? Or maybe a better one for the same price.
And a question about quarentine. I want to quarentine my new BP, but I really really do not have any other place in my house to do it. I am wondering if it's possible to have an effective quarentine, by closing off the area with a curtain? I can show a picture later after I have set it up. I will hand a curtain covering the entire area of the tank except a small spot at the bottom to let air circulate. Would this work well enough?

Careful with the one at lll reptile. Someone bought the one from there and it didn't have a probe. I think LLL has the zoomed repti temp 500, and the one with the probe is zoomed repti temp 500R.
-
Where do I get a thermostat then O_O I dunno where to look now, I definately need the probe. Can anyone tell me where to get one T_T I wish PetCo had another one today. I got mine from there in June, but it was severely discounted *no idea why, it works perfectly*
-
Is there another Petco you can go to? I have two I got one from Petco (on Clearance) and one from a reptile pet shop.
-
ESU thermostat
ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R (with probe)
ReptTemp rheostat
i don't know how cheap you are looking to go, but i ordered my thermostat (the first one) here and it has been totally worth it as far as controlling the temps in my tank.
-
I also got my ZooMed 500R on clearence at PetCo for like 6$. There is no other petco in my area that I can go to T_T Today I went to PetCo, PETsMART, and Benson's *a local pet store*. Nobody had anything o_O
I'm really hoping not to spend more then 25$ on a thermostat T_T I have a week to find one, but its getting on my nerves the last few days searching.

Here is one online for $24.49. Don't know anything about this company though. http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=75

I think I'm gonna get the one from Reptiledirect, or maybe even one of those ESU Thermostats.
I notice Reptile Direct has one of them for 24$ too.
-
i have the esu thermostat and i really like it a lot. it is a very worthwhile purchase. i'll let you know if i see it for less. the esu from reptile direct actually is nicer than the one from petsmart that i linked to earlier. it has room for three plugs whereas the one i got from petsmart only has one.

Can anyone answer my Quarentine question?
And anyone else know where if there is a cheaper ESU then 24$? If not I'll just buy that one.
-
Proper quarantine requires housing in a separate room -- preferably on the opposite end of the house/building -- for a minimum of 30 days (90 being better), handling non-quarantined animals first and always using germ-killing soap or similar between animals, using a substrate with high visibility for p00 trouble and mites and such (like paper towels), and never sharing supplies of any kind with other animals. A curtain does not count as quarantine. Maybe if you are creative, you can figure out a closet or other place to tuck the bp out of the way for a month?
-
Well I have a large wardrobe in the basement, but I have already tried my setup down there and I cant seem to maintain proper heat and humidity levels in it T_T I'm everyday measuring different places, but I'm running out of places to check.
-
I understand it can be a challenge. It's up to you whether you want to take the risk, but I do have to advise that quarantine is the safest approach to take. Maybe under a desk or table you could find space?
-
what about on top of the refridgerator? it's warm and out of the way...
-
How about a closet in another part of the house, or another room somewhere else in the house you could put him for the month? I think quarantine is necessary, however it is up to the keeper.
-
I'd put it on top of the fridge, but theres several problems with that. Fridge isn't big enough, too high up to access easily, other people don't want to see it everytime they want to open the fridge, bird cage is already up there...
BTW, for a thermostat I bought the Alife one from lllreptile.com mostly because the one place i wanted to get that ESU with 3 outlets, wouldn't accept my credit card and when I called, they had some wierd message o_O
-
darn, i was hoping the fridge idea would work. who are these people who don't want to see your new snakey anyhow? 8)
-
Its not that they don't want to see it, its just I doubt my family would be interested in having a snake on the fridge for a month. Besides its always airconditioned in the house and I wouldnt be able to have it heated on top of the fridge.
