Virosan Question

Okay, I just ordered Virosan (spray bottle of it, and an extra gallon). Does anyone use this regularly for cleaning? If so please let me know how much you use. And is it a concentrate, meaning should I dilute the Virosan with water?

Yep, it's a concentrate, just like chlorhexadine. It should say on the gal. jug what the dilution ratio is.

I use it regularly. I'm still on the same jug I bought 1 year ago. it will tell you how to dilute it. I mixed some in a spray bottle for daily cleaning (water dish, soiled spots, etc). And when I do a detailed cleaning I mix some from the bottle in a tub as a disinfectant for soaking items (after they've been cleaned with hot soapy water). Great stuff! I don't understand why more people don't use it. I love how safe it is for them and I don't have to wait for it to dry and worry that it might not be like with bleach.

instead of bleach. Unless it is soley a cost issue. No fumes or worries of enough rinsing.
I use it for everything. When I ordered the first batch it was the spray bottle and the two small bolltes of concentrate. They had marked on the spray bottle where to fill it with water than add one small bottle of Virosan. I am sure they will send directions w/ the gal jug.
Did you buy from ProExotics? I know they will hook you up with what ever info you may need. Great people over there.

Cost is still great to me - I don't think a lot of people realize you dilute it with water making it last longer. I got my jug from ProExotics. I've seen it cheaper other places, but they did the nicest thing for me that they'll have my business forever. I guess they visit a lot of the forums I do (I believe it was mostly Kingsnake), and after I used it for awhile I began recommending the Virosan and their company (along with their tempgun) to people and they saw it. So they sent me some samples of Virosan for free! That's great customer service, and even though I've seen it cheaper elsewhere I will continue to buy from them because it's obvious they treat people right.

Virosan is great for every day cleaning but I still suggest a total break down and cleaning with bleach every 6 months to a year any time a vet clinic or hospital gets an outbreak of something they always go back to the old stand by

I don't just use it for spot cleaning. I do my complete breakdown cleaning with Virosan/Nolvasan about every 2-3 months. No need to use the bleach solution - it's just as effective and is recognized as a safe alternative disinectant. A bottle of bleach is just much cheaper (I can get them for under $1), so it may be much more cost effective for a vet to use that for major disinfecting.

Virosan must clean good enough, that is all Proexotics ever uses for all there cleaning needs on their own animals and the animals they sell.
It's all I have ever used and it is much safer than the bleach deal, period.
And it's all my vet said I needed to use.

After that it is soley personal preference.

Bleach is a tricky thing to use to clean, you can NEVER rinse too much when using bleach.
I use Virosan on dishes and spot-cleaning, and use bleach once every 3 months for a breakdown. Make sure to use it outside and rinse over and over if you do. Don't use it on anything like cork that could potentially carry traces of it. If you think you've rinsed enough....rinse it again. :)

I am in no way knocking Virosan but you may also consider ProExotics has an agenda when they tell people what they use , its sales ! I have been useing bleach in my collection for over 17 years and after several conversations with both Medical Doctors and Vets I have settled on bleach for my main disinfectant. I clean on a weekly basis and a complete cleaning at that .In my opinion spot cleaning is pointless you will never get all of the soiled area especially useing a natural type of substrate

i've been using bleach/water on all my nonporous stuff. but you guys finally convinced me and i just ordered some virosan. it sounds like it's gonna be worth it. 8)

Thanks guys for the input. The Virosan should be here in about 5 days or so. I got the spray bottle from ProExotics, and the gallon from a cheaper place. Depending upon which gets here first I will go with that for my latter needs (haha, they don't know they are in competition). Or I could try that link that was on here as well...good price.

Just out of curosity, (and I'm super new at this), but has anybody tried anything like One step No Rinse Cleaner? I believe the last brand name I saw was No brite, but I don't have that bag anymore, so I'm not sure). I would want to rinse simply becuase this would be for an animal, but as a meadmaker (mead is made from fermented honey, if you don't know) this is what I use to sanitize all of my mead making equipment when I make a batch. It's really vital that you get everything clean and sterile so you get don't an infected batch of med.

I just thought I'd mention this becuase some of my fellow meadmakers use bleach to sanitize things, but I prefer the 1 step myself.
