Broken water dish.
I was wondering if there is a reptile safe epoxy? I would send it back, but the shipping costs more than the water dish is worth.

Dude, are you kidding me? go shellout $5.00 and buy a new bowl..not even,go buy a set of Tuperware, you can get 4 for like $7.00
Insane post man,lol

I'm not sure about a reptile safe epoxy. You could probably buy a new bowl for less than what most epoxies cost.

this is true I go a bunch of bowls for like 5 buck and the epoxy was like 8 bucks.
-
Well it was worth asking, but for s&g is there an epoxy that I could use if the need ever arises?

I use Liquid Nails clear waterproof epoxy to mend pvc seams. You have to let it COMPLETELY dry before you put your animals around it. I dont think I would fix a bowl with it though.

Well that was a useful post. Has is occurred to you that the OP might want to use what he's got for aesthetic reasons? Maybe it's going in a display viv and he doesn't want some janky plastic crap out for everyone to look at.

Re: Broken water dish.
You can also use the gel super glue. After its COMPLETELY dry its safe. I've used it in planted aquariums with no problems and that was with very delicate fish. It doesn't leak any toxins. I will say I've never used it on a snakes water dish.

thank you:cool:
BUY a new one!!! That's the solution. If it's some pricey water bowl, then go get a quick fix bowl for $5 and save a few bucks to buy a new one that you really like. Then again,if you can't afford a water bowl you shouldn't own a pet,God forbid it gets sick. How you going to afford a vet bill if you can't even afford a new water bowl....:D

God forbid you actually be pleasant. :/
I think this is a good question OP. Never know when you'll need to know what glue is safe to use. I would think aquarium sealant would be fine since fish are fine with it.

If you're going to comment, at least make an ATTEMPT to comprehend what the OP said. Not once did anyone say anything about being able to afford a new dish. The ONLY thing about $ that was said is that shipping it back would be more than the bowl is worth. Doesn't mean he can't afford it, just that it's not worth paying to ship. There's quite a difference.

Yeah, I failed to see where op mentioned they couldn't afford a new dish, or vet bill.
OP, I'm not sure what would be safe. Most epoxies I've been around smell terrible, so I wouldn't use in a water dish just to be safe.
-
Fish tank silicone, perfectly safe when dry. Just make sure to let it dry (24 hours I think), the fumes are awful.

Re: Broken water dish.
I would also suggest aquarium sealant as I've used it to replace broken glass in tanks, which are then used to house reptiles, and haven't had any problems.
There is nothing wrong with implementing a cheap or even free, but still workable and safe solution to a problem if it means you can save your dollars for more important expenditures, like vet bills, quality thermostats, or new acquisitions.

You mean replacing things like the stick on thermometer strip, dial hygrometer, and jury rigged thermostat probe stuck to the inside of the tank with a raggedy scrap of foil tape? I mean, there's nothing wrong with those, right?

Aquarium sealant would be fine. Most epoxies, while nontoxic when fully cured, aren't really made for constant submersion, unless specifically designed for it.
And something that really bothers me is people who start criticizing others when they ask about a way to save money. Maybe they have won the lotto or something and cash doesn't mean anything to them, but some of us work darn hard for what we get, and I for one will take any reasonable means I can find to save money as long as it doesn't compromise the health of my animals. That way I have more when the need for things does arise. It's stupid to waste cash you don't have to.

Ugh! I said workable and safe solution. "Sticky" inside the enclosure is not safe and would end up costing more - because you know if it's sticky your snake will get attached to it! - than any potential savings.

Yeah I could buy a new one but I wanted to know of a pet safe epoxy. I also enjoy fixing things thats why I work as an auto mechanic and its why I'm going to school to be a welder, I like making and fixing things. So if I did find a epoxy that can be used for my snakes stuff it would be cool for me to know that.

Is that why you can't afford feeders, bedding, or those high end stick on gauges and magical foil tape? If that's the case, you shouldn't get those uber expensive Flexwatt crimping tools.

Re: Broken water dish.
Ladies and Gents, we are here to answer a good question not debate who should and shouldn't own an animal. I am getting a little tired of all the griping and pissing contests going on. I don't make a ton of money yet I own 2 of these beautiful and sweet creatures. I am a stay at home mom on disability. My husband works in the fire department where we live. So we don't make "a ton of money". Yet I have enough to make sure I can care for what is depending on me to care for them. Yes Imay lleave the bedding in a little longer or I don't have all the fancy equipment that others do. I am saving up for a nice thermostat, and some other things. My snakes are well fed, and I care for them. I do make sure their enclosures are clean and they have fresh water, and are healthy. So back to the OPs question.
Yes you can fix the bowl with aquarium silicone, or the gell super glue. Just make sure what ever you use dries completely before putting it back in to the enclosure. I wish you great luck with your pet.

I think there is apparently a lot you have missed... Much of this is poking fun at a former member who constantly offered bad advice and criticized others.

Whoa!! Take it easy there, killer...
The griping has been over for a while now. The instigator has been banned, and we're all having a chuckle at his expense. We're all good.
To address YOUR financial situation, I don't think it matters to the vast majority of us how much or how little you spend, provided your animals are taken care of to the best of your ability. I hope I speak for all of us when I say you shouldn't feel obligated to explain or justify your financial situation to any of us. Ever. None of us should.
Btw, you mentioned that your husband works for the fire department. Please thank him for me. That can be a challenging job, and they can't be thanked enough for all they do for us.

Re: Broken water dish.
Oh I read through the whole thing before I replied to this. The person you are referring to called me an idiot a few times even though I have owned and cared for my girl a lot longer than he's been out of diapers. Yes I'm feeling old and the mommy is coming out. I've also gotten on to that person for being a jerk. If we want to discuss this person then lets start a new post. I was also trying to see if there were other suggestions besides gel super glue and aquarium silicone which are safe for all animal use after they've cured. But anyway the person that was being discussed is gone and now we can get back to teaching each other new stuff and having fun. Sorry I'm either just too tired, pregnant, or just plain ole old for dealing with idiots that think they are the next Messiah. Remember he read some stuff and took it as the law of how things should be done. He probably got his info from a petsmart or petco employee. Now you see how high my opinion is. I go to people that have owned the animal I am looking at not some idiot that can't tell an BP from a Leapord Gecko. Yes that's an exaduration but you know what I mean. The person that is now gone tried to tell me I'm an idiot because my husband put my male with my female because his humidity was low and I was sick. He was very thorough in telling me to get rid of my BPs because of this and because I had friends taking care of my female for a while because I couldn't have her with me. He also gave VERY bad advice to brand new BP owners because they didn't do what he wanted.
-
okay, that's enough. Has anyone heard the adage 'let sleeping dogs lie?' It's a good adage... I like it.. Look it up if you don't know it...
The issues have been taken care of, I'd really hate to lock this thread.
Move along, nothing to see here...

Re: Broken water dish.
Sorry just tried to edit and it didn't let me. Disregard part of that post. It's been a very long day with little sleep. Patientz3ro, thank you for appreciating all the firefighters, police, and military. I'm a disabled vet and know personally how hard they work. I wasn't trying to say that I can do things better on a smaller amount just saying that even though someone doesn't have as much they can still take good care of these beautiful creatures. I do have a jury rigged thermostat right now lol. Its working and thats what matters. I did see a couple pics of the banneds set up and I have to say his is worse than mine was when I very first started out keeping my girl lol. He didn't change anything in his even after all the questions to people on here and still had the nerve to say he was the best. Now he will go onto a different forum and say we never gave him a chance and we're all idiots.
