    "Man Eating Super Snake"
Currently watching Animal Planets special on the African Rock Python titled "Man Eating Super Snake". I've found myself laughing at about half the episode so far. Narrated by the same ominous voice that tells you "In a world, where sea monkeys roam the earth..." which is the main point of humor for me because it makes it so blatant that they're aiming to provoke fear in people. Also stated was that they are "Dangerous to interfere with while feeding"...well, no kidding!? I guess an ARP was the kind of snake that killed that young boy in Florida somewhat recently... And they made a very big deal about that in this episode but neglected to give so many details.. Like when the snake "escaped its tank and slithered to the 3 yr old boy..." they forgot to mention exactly how and why the snake escaped. Perhaps it was not properly secured? Or how some farmer woke up to find one of his Turkeys had been "devoured" by the snake and how horrifying that is supposed to be...

I just thought a channel like Animal Planet would be a little less biased and be less on the shock factor value and more on quality, factual information. Sorry, I just felt the need to let off a quick rant.. I really thought this show would be cool... Instead it turned out to be a lot of dramatizations, shaky camera feeds and abstract angles..

    Anybody else seen this?

    The best line so far...

"The most horrifying question of all: Are African Rock Pythons reproducing!?!?"

Uummm no.... They're just chilling and new ones magically spawn every now and again...

Animal (rights) Planet hasn't been unbiased in years. Check the credits at the end of their shows and you can see that many of them have either been produced by or funded by PETA or HSUS.

Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery have all gone downhill in recent years. They all used to be good channels with good shows that were informative without trying to resort to being shock based.

Now it just seems like it's all Platypus vs Marmot shows where they spend 60 minutes making up fights between two animals, or Extreme Animal Tails or crap like that. I don't even bother watching anymore.

Planet Earth and Blue Seas were the last quality shows any of them produced, IMO.

Ahh, I didn't realize this but it makes so much sense.. Too bad, all that funding and it's put into producing garbage. But why would companies like PETA support essentially putting out slander against animals, if that's even really possible.. You know what I mean.. It makes a lot of sense but is also contradicting... :confusd:

    PETA:

    People
    Eating
    Tasty
    Animals

I had a little PETA last night. Elk and venison steaks with a lovely glaze.

Most, if not all, of these shows are glorfied dramatizations of real life events. Hype and entertainment. If we watch shows about snakes and what not it is pretty much just Jeff Corwin.

There were 2 more shows on earlier on Nat Geo Wild that talked about Retics & Anacondas...they were much more informative & spoke positively about the snakes.
Animal Planet is awful these days!

I don't watch AP because, one, it isn't funny; two, it does give my family members a wrong impression, and three, watching AP means you watch their advertisements, meaning they get even more money to donate back to animal activist's and more money to spew crap to scare ignorant viewers. Why do you think they have retarded shows like Too cute! other than to get viewers to go "aww" and make ad-money.

The Venom One program or whatever is equally as bad. Theyll have these "huge" redtails on there maybe around 5ft that have the hissing sound effect going on in the background.

Don't even get me started... I'm still trying to figure out why LLL Reptiles hasn't sued them for using their name, logo, and banner in that god-awful "Elephant in the Living Room" movie they put out a while back. I'm still disgusted by that crap.

I'm more concerned about stupid people that have no right to have kids reproducing than any snake. We can control animals, if only that was true for people.

I stopped watching AP a long time ago and The Discovery channel is coming close to it.

Discovery and AP used to have decent, educational shows that were worth watching. Now they produce junk that is almost indistinguishable from yellow journalism.

Animal Planet and all of those shows are just like the ignorant media. Maybe even worse. You couldn't pay me to watch those shows.

If I had kids I'd rather them play grand theft auto rather than let them get educated with incorrect and ignorant information. It just comes a point in time where so much on TV is beyond fake it's pointless to watch. I personally haven't watched TV in about 2 years with the exception of football. Too many commercials and it's always the same stuff on.

When Animal Planet changed their motto to 'surprisingly human', you know it was going to be bad.

And what is with the dumb Finding Bigfoot show?! And Redneck hand fishing one? What about those shows are educational??

And as much as I love dogs, the programs that feature dogs are just sickeningly way too fluffed up.

I hate how all shows are now becoming "reality" tv. What about that style is interesting? It just looks so fake to me. I can easily see that the situations are staged and it bothers me.

Like Sons of Guns. It was just fine before all the added drama. What I hate about the "Finding this and that shows" is how they are so dramatic at finding nothing. I just don't see how they are interesting. Every show you already know how its going to end, "sorry we found nothing."

Actually, they don't want you to own those either. Their philosophical position is that animals should not be owned or "exploited" by humans at all. Of course it is a completely hypocritical position but thats a topic for another thread.

Hahahah you must love "Finding Bigfoot" then.

I agree, the "reality" aspect is completely lost in todays media. It's more like a sitcom with a hint of reality at this point.

I dont have any problem with people preaching about what others should and shouldn't do. I just have a problem with them going to the government to enforce laws to restrict what people can and cant do. PETA or HSUS without government force is simply loud mouthed activists with no pull or ability to restrict you from anything. Of course it would still be completely within their ability to not support pet owners and continue preaching about us being evil which is perfectly acceptable because I have ear muffs and I dont sell to people who would rather see an animal dead then in captivity. :gj:
