Need some bulk f/t feeder reviews please
I have recently heard rumors (since it's confined to hearsay I don't want to make libelous accusations about specific companies) that some of the larger suppliers of frozen rodents have had some issues with disease outbreaks in their facilites and lowered quality in their products. I have never ordered frozen feeders before, so I'd like some reviews from those who have. Has anyone else heard similar things? Have you had any specifically good or bad experiences with any of the suppliers? Are there any that have been consistently good enough for any of you to personally reccommend? I'm paying a fortune for feeders right now, but I'd rather keep spending the cash than give my guys mediocre food. Thanks!

I've used Rodent Pro and ARS (American Rodent Supply) and had good experiences with both.

I typically order from Layne Labs. But I took advantage of Rodent Pro's Black Friday special and placed a large order that arrives tomorrow. As it's my first order from them I will let you know if I feel they meet Layne Labs quality.

You are just now getting your order from them?

Also this is from Layne Lab's website.

"We are aware that a breeding facility located in Georgia was recently forced to recall their product due to a salmonella bacterial outbreak. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall notice “Salmonella can affect animals and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products….Human illnesses that may be related to the frozen reptile feed have been reported in 17 states. The recalled product should not be fed to animals…” As a result, that company must now irradiate their mice and rats in an effort to address the Salmonella issue associated with their products.
Layne Labs, has tested NEGATIVE for salmonella 100% of the time for the last 17 years. Layne Labs is a USDA-licensed facility. Our animals are cleaned every day.

‘Cleaned’ is defined as: All animals are removed from their cage and placed in a clean cage, with clean shavings. At the end of each day, the empty cages are dumped, the shaving composted, and the cages are sent through an extremely high temperature 30′ washer, where they are disinfected. Every day. Just one of the many steps we take to help protect the health and well being of our colony, employees, and customers.

    I've used Layne Labs.
Their animals are high quality! I've only ordered rabbits, but they were very clean and odorless. I admit I had to pet the rabbits a few times because they were so soft................

But anyway, their packing was great and arrived with no issue. The rep was personal and got my order together straight away.

I'd recommend and use them again.

I've used rodent pro both before and after the problem they had. I was very happy with the quality of their product. My BPs were happy as well. I have had certaing picky BPs refuse frozen thawed rats from vendors at local shows.

Yes, the order was placed the weekend after Thanksgiving so it didn't ship until this past Monday to Southern California. They only ship on Mondays or Tuesdays.

    Below is their shipping schedule:

Q: On what days do you ship and when should I expect to receive my order?
A: All orders placed (CST) Monday thru Thursday will ship on Monday / Tuesday of the following week. All orders placed (CST) Friday thru Sunday will ship on the second Monday / Tuesday following the date on which the order was placed. Once your order has been received you will be notified with an estimated time of arrival.

This does seem like a long time but I am holding judgment until I see the product.

Only done a few orders as I'm still new, but they've all been from Layne and, as expressed above, they've been great.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll give Layne a go since the reviews seem pretty consistent.

Received my first order from Rodent Pro today as mentioned in an earlier post in this thread. While the price was right, some of the rodents do not seem to be in real good shape. Layne Labs flash freezes them and then puts them in the bags for shipping. It is apparently opposite from Rodent Pro. The rodents are obviously packed in the bags first and then flash frozen. Some of them are pretty much a solid frozen blob and twitsed around each other. I am sure there will be legs and tails breaking off when trying to separate them to thaw. I know the snakes won't notice or care. LOL

I will use them, but I will be staying with Layne Labs from here on. Will post some comparison pictures tomorrow.

I use Big Cheese Rodents and have for years. I've never had any issues with them and I normally place my order on Wednesday morning and he'll ship Wednesday and it gets here Friday. It's easier since our states are neighbors. I find their pricing to be the best as well. They vacuum seal everything and the sizes are very consistent.

I also use Layne Labs and I love them. I've now used them for about a year and a half, and have bought several different sizes from them. The quality is amazing compared to any other frozen feeder I've ever bought. The rats come neatly packaged, smell fresh and clean (and not like a dead frozen rat), and I've never had a bad one when thawing (which I have from some other places). I picked them because of the way they raise and euthanize their feeders.
