    Basking After Feeding
My BCI fed last night and for some reason is on the "cool" end of his tank which is at 78 degrees. His "hot" side is at 88-89 under his hide. I'm not in a panic or anything but do y'all think he'll still digest OK like that? We fed our little pin as well and she is under her "hot" side hide as she should be. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like basic thermoregulation, my boas will stay on the cool side after eating usually though...only venturing to the basking spot later in the night.

Yeah he will be fine, your tank still has a warm spot anyway,so he will be good.

my guys never go to the cool side after they eat. Always warm hide.my one guy does alternate hide here and there and my other only uses his warm hide

So the bottom line is that I provide them the environment they need and let them do their own thing. Pretty much it?

Kinda what I was thinking. They've both been doing very well and I should let them be but I still "worry" sometimes. My fiancee is worse than me. I'm constantly telling her, "it's ok baby. They're perfectly fine"

I've never had a snake, or two, as a pet. It's all new to me and I fell in love with them.

Part of my problem is that I have the "cheap" UTH's from the pet store on both tanks. Using my IR temp gun, the heat varies by as much as 5 degrees on the surface over the UTH. I can move the IR gun an inch and it changes 2 or 3 degrees. I ordered and received some flexwatt and will replace these with that as soon as possible. Hopefully that will yield some more consistent temps. I'm using Johnson Controls A419ABC-1C on both tanks so I'm reasonably confident that they are stable and accurate.

    Expensive hobby

Wait until you get a large collection. Just heat the room, and never worry again about hot spots, cold side hides, warm side hides, UTH's, CHE's, RHP's, Flexwatt, multiple T-Stats, miles of wires and cords and plugs and power strips, adjusting, tweaking, worrying, etc.

Made my life so much easier.

I've never owned a snake and Faulkan has done tons of research but doubts himself sometimes.

Thanks a ton guys. Both our babies are in an isolated 10x11 room with a Delonghi oil filled heater so ambient will never be an issue. We're using uth only other than the space heater. Overall, I think we're just fine. I was mainly concerned with my boa burying himself under the aspen under the cold side just after eating when he should be under his hot side hide.

LMAO. Sorry guys. Yes we love each other very much. We didn't necessarily mean to bring it out here. You guys are the greatest.

My boas spend the majority of their time on the cool side. They also enjoy burrowing in their aspen. So long as you provide the proper gradient, don't worry about them.

Here is my newest guy. They all love the aspen. :) He just ate, and he's on his cool side. The boas really seem to prefer it cooler.
