Varies by species...male retics are often combative. Last time I read, balls were still hovering in the gray area with a decent amount of reports stating wild males were fighting, but not very cut and dry P-values. CB males together for under an hour or so? I doubt the likelihood of any issues. Together in an enclosed space with an insufficient amount of resources for both for a prolonged time period? Yes, a fight would be much more likely.

For a photo they will be OK.

But if you house two or more mature males together, they will fight. They will display dominant dances and might even lock each other.

Yeah, that sounds shady,lol...I'd be careful I guess..could just be curiosity or nervousness, then again that can lead to aggression..

I don't let my guys hang out,but did one little photo shoot and they were awesome. My guys are super mellow and completely non aggressive,I guess I'm lucky.

What if you have a big enough enclosure with plenty of hides..let's say something like a 75 gallon with 5 or 6 hides.

A 75-gallon would be cutting it close...I would recommend at least 2'X4'X18''...I really think the extra 6 inches makes a difference as far as floor space goes. It is possible but it takes a little extra effort you might say.

I have seen a guy or kid I can't remember putting 3 BP's in the same tank if I am correct it was a 125 gallon, it was a nice set up but housing 3 in the same tank is asking for trouble down the road. I don't plan on housing any of/future snakes together, I think right now even with your guys knowledge I will hold off from a group photo til I feel that my normal is more relax with the mojave.

Why on earth would you allow your bp's to fight or even put them in a tank together

Some people do it o get the boys ready for the girls. To the winner goes the spoils of war kind of thing. Its an idiot move if 1 really hurts another. Yes males will combat each other for females. Does it make it right? No imho. That's like letting 2 male dogs fight over who will get to breed the female. OP your bps should be ok to take a couple quick group shots. If you don't feel comfortable doing it no worries. Good luck.

I house two BPs together and never had an issue. There's no reason why your snakes would attack each other (unless you're feeding them together).

Saying that "housing multiple BPs together is asking for trouble" without concrete proof is a little irresponsible in my opinion. If anything, it's a personal preference just like feeding live or f/t but shouldn't be considered wrong.

You saw the video right? I did not see a rat anywhere. I do not always agree with Satomi but...it's pretty damn straight forward in this case. :confusd: . If your set up is working, great...no one said it was impossible...also we are mainly talking about adult males here I believe.

Honestly I don't see any real reason to house two snakes together. I would bet that most of the time it isn't a major issue. But I have always felt that by keeping these animals in captivity it is our responsibility to provide the absolute best living situation for them. So if something even has a possibility of going south I don't want to give them the opportunity. I have seen snakes try and be dominant over another, compete for hiding spots, temperatures, etc. I've seen snakes get stressed out because of cage mates. I've seen feeding accidents. And now I've seen a video of them fighting. But what is the benefit of housing them together? You save some money on housing and heating? If someone has a better reason I really would love to hear it (not being sarcastic :) it's a forum and therefore a place to learn). To me it just isn't worth the risk. Just my opinion.

EDIT: there are some keepers that I have heard say it's acceptable for certain species, but this doesn't include ball pythons

    Re: snake fight?
I do agree with most of the points given by the others in regard to housing multiple ball pythons together. I house my balls separately for most of those reasons.

However, cohabitation is safely do-able within certain perimeters and a higher level of keeper experience. Saying its plain wrong to cohabit is incorrect. Just highly unrecommended.

    Can it be done? Yes.
Should it be done? Maybe not for newbies.
Would I house two mature ball python males together? No.

And in regards to snakes in general, some species can and/or need to be housed together permanently/long term in order to breed.

So there are snakes that shouldn't, could, and have to be cohabited. Depends on the species, keeper, and set up.
