What would you go for?
Right guys, I have found a breeder near me who is selling 2 BP's I am interested in; problem is I can't choose. The price difference is insignificant. She has told me that she does a 2 month payment plan scheme so I know I can pay in time towards this guy.
I have a normal female het genetic stripe and I have been on the look out for a boyfriend for her, now I know I should get my females and grow them up and get a male later but I'm terrible and can't help myself ;)
The breeder has 2 possibilities. She has a butter ph gs male and a cinnamon ph gs male. The cinnamon shows signs of her 100% hets and exhibits signs that he does carry the genetic stripe gene.
What would you go for? I do like the butter gs but I already have a lesser female and I think these morphs are quite similar although I do more of a "lighter and brighter" lover in BP's. I am not against going for something darker though.
In summary I am stuck. HELP! :D

What would you go for?
Butter male to pair to your lesser and het gs girl
-
My lesser has a choice of spider or mojave. Most likely the spider as I am not the biggest fan of all white snakes (no offence to lovers of BEL's I may change my mind over time)
-
I vote for Cinny. Especially if it's showing really good signs of being an actual het.
And in the future you can also put that cinny to the lesser female for a really gorgeous combo.
-
Yeah I also have a female pastel, although due to her poor colouring I may keep her as a pet rather than a breeder and invest in a brighter pastel female, and I could also make pewters.
I am so conflicted when I see two beautiful snakes but I don't need nor can I afford two more males right now. She also had a beautiful orange ghost but that would have been pure impulse.

Id go with cinny since you already have a lesser. Lessers and butters are basically the same morph. Adding a cinny will give you more possibilities and its darker unlike the lessers. And if it shows markers for het than id go for it.

I vote for this too! Pair him to your lesser and make BELs, if he ends up being het gs, gs butters are flippin sweeet :D

Re: What would you go for?
But if you hold back a BEL and breed, how would you lable the offspring? Butter or Lesser?
Not to mention potential eye deformities in Butter Lesser Crosses.

Get the males later. Get your females now, grow them up, in 3 years buy a two or three gene male to go with them. Prices are dropping every year. What you get in 3 years will be much better than what you can get now for your male.

I love spiders! If you are looking for one now I have a buddy looking to rehome a 2012 spider male that is absolutely stunning. he came from bhb reptiles.

1. I'm in England
2. I have myself a lovely male spider and a male bumblebee, love the spider combinations.

I'd go for the cinny as well for a variety of reasons:
1) More possible combinations with your current animals.
2) I love cinnys. (Irrelevant)
3) He shows promising het markers where the other male does not.
4) Lesser/Butter combos can produce babies with overly large bulging eyes.
5) You don't really like BELs anyway, so you should definitely get the cinny male.
I feel that given this logical breakdown, the answer is clear. ;) lol.

I would get neither. Like you said, building up females is your best bet. Males are cheap (relatively) and easy to come by and mature much much faster. It's a waste of an investment to get so many males so early on in my opinion

I would also vote for the cinny het gs, if you're set on one of those two. I am personally a big fan of variation. You have a lesser already (albeit a female one), and seeing as how you have no interest in a BEL not to mention the potential deformities, the cinny would be the way to go. Cinny lessers are pretty, pewters are cool, albino cinnamons have nice contrast. But I would personally work on getting more females at the moment, as males take less time to become breedable.
On a side note, already looking for new additions again? You little addict, you.. xD I'm totally jealous. :o

I was really leaning towards the cinny. whilst he is more expensive I do not see this as relevant. It would be nice to have a darker morph in my collection and I do think the butter and lesser are very similar.
Should I want to go for the BEL I have a mojave male which I could pair with my lesser female should I wish. Thank you for your input guys :)

Re: What would you go for?
I would hold off on any single gene males.
Speaking from my own experience, I did just that and now the two and three gene males are so easy to get, I should have waited.
I would invest in a pewter, lemon blast or some other two gene female that you like.
I love you enthusiasm but point it in a direction that will pay off down the road.

I really respect your view and I do understand where you are coming from. As much as I love the double/triple gene morphs I would rather try to create them myself. If I breed I am doing it solely for my own pleasure and satisfaction and I am more than happy to start by creating single and double morphs first before then expanding into the triple genes.
I think my thought process goes along the lines of, if I want something beautiful in my collection I would love to breed it into my collection rather than buying it. I was looking into simply purchasing a visual genetic stripe male rather than a morph x het to that gene and a breeder in my area suggested going for a morph het to genetic stripe instead.
The seller of the cinnamon het and the butter het also has a butter pastel het but he is out of my price range. I really love the base morphs, 7 of my babies are just that and I wouldn't have them any other way.
Thank you for your input though :)

Re: What would you go for?
If your going to get one of them get the cinnamon,
if it doesn't prove out, you will at least have added a new gene to your collection .
