Constantly Moving/Running

Is it normal for a young ball python to constantly be trying to "run" when being handled? I have only had boas up until we got our new pinstripe ball python. My current boa as well as the one I had 20 years ago tend to wrap and sit still for the most part. Our current one will explore a little but seems content to just chill when held. Both our current snakes (the boa and python) are roughly the same age at just a few months old.

Some are more adventerous than others. Usually bps will just wrap around, maybe move a bit but it dosent sound like theres anything wrong with your snake

Thanks. She's definitely healthy. Her temps are good, she's eating and shedding well. She seems completely normal to me except the fact that she doesn't really wrap around a few fingers or a wrist and chill out. From the moment we pick her up she's trying to move. She's way faster than the boa too. Lol

Just sounds like an adventurous snake, my pastel is exactly like that. just cant stay still. lol

In her defense we've only had her a little over a month. Between settling in, shedding and the first few attempts to get her to eat have kept us from handling her much. Now that she's fully settled and eating F/T fuzzy rats, we're starting to handle her more. I'm hoping she'll settle down a bit. Her temperament is great. She's just a bit squirmy.

I have a little spider hatchling I've had since the 14th of this month and all he does is move! I let him go from one hand to the other and let him do his thing, my others are more content to sit in my hand on wrap although they also roam when out but, my spider is a lot more adventurous.

Like people, BP's all have different personalities. I was quite shocked when I saw how fast my spider was! I'm now a little more prepared for him when he comes out :)

My normal is very active whether in his habitat or being handled. I used to worry a bit about it but he's healthy and has never refused prey. He's just different. Kind of like his keepers. :oops:

Some of them yes. I have a couple who as soon as I pick them up it's a mad dash to get down. I become like a treadmill for them. They keep trying to go down and I keep doing the hand over hand thing like I'm letting out 1000 feet of rope.

Mine tries to climb everything possible and reachable. Doesn't try to escape but when given chance to roam free he goes on an adventure and trying to climb everything possible. He like to climb behind radiator up to the window ledge and from there on, on a tree looking plant that can actually handle his weight ;)

Also I noticed he's not so active when he's alone. If left alone he doesn't even bother to come out of his hide. But as soon there's something happening around him, comes out and usually wants to go out for a stretch :P I normally don't take him out from box by "force" but instead I just open the doors so he can get out on his own. If it does superb, play time he doesn't nothing wrong I close the doors till next time.

Just yesterday he insisted to go out minutes after him being fed ! I guess he missed the company :P

Mine is a climber as well. In fact, as I type this, he's up on his driftwood (actually dried grapevine) in his tank. He spends a lot of time on that. He's even gone to sleep on it.

My pastel female is a mover when she is out... hence why I do not have one decent pic of her lol

Thank you for starting this thread. It has made me feel a lot better about my little guy's activity level.
