alright... i made about 3 trips to petsmart, my new fav pet store. they do not have much in the way of reptiles, but what they do have had a very impresive fact sheet for each animal there. and the animals looked very well taken care of. the sheets had the humidity levels, size, temps, night time temps, and a few other details to let you know right away what to set up with. anyways..... i got a few things and now roswells new cage is done.. for this paycheck. here is his new home.

i had to get cocnut shell substrate cause they were all out of everytihng else. it is real nice so far. expanded very well, and looks good. i got a new waterbowl/hide. this was a great find. it was 6.99, and there is a bowl on top and underneath is a hide. i thought this would be great for the cool side hide. i got a new log hide for him too. it has 3 entrances on on each side, and one on top, and some bonzia tree style stuff. he was kicking it on there earlier and looked happy. i also got some vine with a suction cup to put in the back, and provide shade in the back of the log. it was 10 bucks, but a whole rack was mis-labeled at 2.99 i think, and they honered the price. i went to the fish section and got some plastic grass. they were 1.50$ each, and i want to get more to create a fake grassy area he can chill in. i also got the acurite deal with a probe for a second temp. i used the mounting part with the sticky sided tape. i put a bead of silicone around the outside of the double tape to prevent water from ever getting in and making it fall. i also put a heat pad on the warm side. i will now be getting the timers, and trying to work out a system to keep it perfect. all in all i think i spent about 50-60 bucks(minus the ultrasonic foggerthats getting returned). next paycheck i hope to get some more things for the middle, and maybe create another spot for him to chill and climb.. i was looking at those vines, but they are paper, and i am not too sure about how the moisture would handle with paper after a while.... i also need a background. i havent seenany that reall catch my eye yet. well i did se one, but it was too large, and the wrong theme. it was greek statues underwater and it was blue.

I had a hide like that tree one, I'm not sure if it's the exact same one or not, I got it at petsmart too, and it was really neat, my snake seemed to like it, but I ended up getting rid of it because it was really hard to clean out if he pooped in there. It was gross. Hopefully you won't have the same problem.

If you place your thermometer closer to the substrate, you will get a more accurate reading of the floor temperature.

    How Fast?
Looks nice. You may also want to put a nice snug hide on the other side of his tank as well. If they have to choose between security and thermoregulation, they will often allow themselves to get too warm or too cool for the sake of feeling safe. Best to let them have a choice of hides at various temps.

I think the water dish thing is also a hide, am I right?

yeah.. the water dish was designed to be both. it was so cool, and for about 6.99. i am using it as a cool hide. that tree is nice, and i think it holds heat well or something. i went to bed last night, and after checking the temps, and seeing the hot side had reached 100, i shut off the overhead lamp, i woke up this morning, about 6 am pst, and saw that side of the cage was still 94.3 and the cool side had dropped to 78.something... nice variant for a 20 gal. i think the things in the cage are too easy for me to clean cause i have a showerhead with a powerblast. last night after i finished the cage roswell pood on his new water dish/ hide, so i blaseted it outa there and washed it real quik. i think he feels very safe now in my house, cause last night he stayed in the middle of the cage in the open, just chilling for over a few hours. . when i first got him he would hide and not come out much. as far as the acurite, i am going to get a second that will be placed underneath. i want to have another probe that goes in to the cool side hide. that one is to get the ambient temps. with a probe for the hot side.

What you did here was link to an html page with an image tag. For image tags to work, they have to refer to recognized image file types, which I think are restricted to jpg, gif, and png.

You could try stringing some fake vines across from one side to the other. I have a bunch that i got in the craft section of WalMart.

    size and age.
hmmm good idea. petsmart is located about 50 feet from my local wal-mart. i am returning the ultrasonic fog machine, and will take a look in wal-mart. my g/f got a bunch of flowers there yesterday, i should have looked. but theres always today. she also wants to go to micheals so i may take a look and see what they have too. what about material. i amthinking plastic all the way, but may lean to silk if it is safe and durable enough. any thoughts???

Should be fine, but it's always a good idea to rinse anything like that thoroughly before putting it in the enclosure.
