Just something that gave me a little giggle
Not a question at all, just an amusing and cute photo of my het albino boy (I know this should probably go in the BP Pictures folder but I'm feeling rebellious)

It's almost an "You can't see me if I hide my head in here, right?" look!

Feel free to share any cute or quirky photo's of your BP's too :D

I don't have the photo yet but, I have a lazy BP that will stick his head in one hide with his tail in another. He stops completely exposed and spend 5-15 minutes like this before continuing into the hide of his choice.

My newest little lesser girl hid when I tried to take her picture.

The black pastel just refused to uncurl lol.

Don't really have any pictures of my other snakes trying to hide. Will have to work on getting some :)

I know I've posted this in another thread but I really get a kick out of it. My baby acting all like a tree boa all curled around one of the spray nozzles in his tank.

Spider got a little confused at tea time....
Sorry for the dark image, it was the light I was feeding in but this really gave me a giggle.

I hold my F/T by the back legs with the tongs until the BP strikes, this time went a little bit wrong. I must have released too early on the tongs (only explanation I can think of) and my little spider boy ended up holding his prey like this......

He did eat it though! Can imagine that was fun finding the right way!

Ah I've seen mine doing the same. Missing his pray and bite by leg. Seen him miss and eat whole mouth full of bark. Then he had to empty it before another try ;) But in the end rat went into his belly :D

I think he just dragged it into his hide by the tail and worked it out from there! I had to walk away from him as I was hysterical! One of my girls managed to perfectly stack her hot hide on top of her cold one! (I'm using plastic bowls temporarily for my smaller ones). It took my a couple of minutes of wondering why she only had one hide to work out what she had done!

    BP's are quirky things :D

Yeah they can be that way ;) Doing almost impossible things. I so must get me few more to enlighten my days. They are as you said so adorable and cute and I just can't have enough of them <3

My spider boy I've noticed likes to flip his hide over and then he lays in it. Wants a bed, I suppose. I need to get a pic next time he does it.

I know exactly what you mean! I can't have enough of them either! They all have their little personalities and quirks :)

I had my little spider out for handling and I was sat on the floor with my legs crossed. Instead of having a wander around the rug on the floor he decided to crawl under my legs and settle down there :) He usually never stops moving! By far the most energetic of mine!

Mine also. Just wanders around usually never hides. But every once and a while he decides to be even more friendly and goes sleeping in a sleeve or in your hands or just "watches" TV with us.

As I read and get to know more and more about BPs I notice they all have their own personalities and quirks and for so I need/want more of them <3 Instant love at first sight :rolleye2:

Probably will get a girlfriend for him in a nearish future, and I don't see me stopping there ;)
speaking of which ... what would go nicely with a normal BP (beside another normal :)?

Those little babies are so cute. Also is it bad that I'm too poor to afford pretty morphs? DX

I really want to get a Banana Ball

    But they're so expensive :(

Yeah same here. Whatever "nice" I find it's just too expensive ... prices start from $1000. But normals are nice also. Mine is such an adorable creature I have no regrets and wish more of them like that. Maybe not a crazy morph but such a cwazy personality I really don't mind.

Even if I never can afford an expensive morph I just know there will be more of them one way or another ;)

Wait a few years. The expensive ones will get cheaper. The supply of ball pythons grows exponentially which pushes down prices.

There are a lot of nice single gene specimens available for $100 to $200 now as well. Enchis, lessers, cinammons, pinstripes, etc. Not as flashy as the 5 gene Super Mega Fire Ultra Clown Fader Yellowbelly Ghost Butter monsters but you can find some nice ones. If you're selective and plan ahead a little you can eventually make the 2 and 3 gene combos that you like without spending a fortune on the initial snakes.

Yeah I noticed there's few morphs for $100-500 which is reasonable and acceptable price. Did you mean selective plan by breeding them or waiting for price drops? I'm already thinking of little breeding by starting to get a female for my normal male. Then maybe two morphs to reproduce. Dunno where this will go but there will be more of these lovely creatures in my life :P

Can normals be paired with any morphs and what's the expected result?

Selective as in getting snakes that fit your eventual goals.

ie, I made a list of the 2 and 3 gene combos I liked. Lesser leopards and enchi clowns, etc. Then I figured out what I would need to make the different combos. Figured out which ones would make sense as males, and which ones as females, and started buying the females. Once the females get closer to maturity, I'll buy the males to go with them. Then I can start making the combos I wanted to make.

It's easy to find a male here or a [insert random morph] there that looks nice and is a good deal, but if it doesn't fit the plan, it may not be worth it. So I try to stay a little selective in my purchases now. There's a list of about 15 combos I want to make so I try to keep my purchases related to those eventual goals.

Normals can be paired with anything. Any male/female BP's can be paired regardless of morph, actually. They're all BP's at their genetic core, just some of the paint jobs are different on the outside.

There's an excellent site for checking out potential breeding combinations at World Of Ball Pythons.

    http://www.worldofballpythons.com/wizard/

Enter the male and female genetics and it'll spit out the whole list of possible results.

Re: Just something that gave me a little giggle
Interesting suggestion. Yeah the first buy our normal male was a bit impulsive buy, but it started the idea of breading them. First it started as an idea of a girlfriend for my normal. But I see your point and quite like the idea. There's time I don't need neither can afford to get all of wanted/liked morphs now.

But breeding them and being picky on selecting new ones to create own morphs is an interesting suggestion indeed. :gj:

I'm getting myself a lesser female tomorrow to go in my little collection :D she is my spiders future girlfriend. I bought one and got the bug, within two months I'll be on number 7 :) If I had more money I'm sure I'd have more but we all have to start somewhere! :)

I'll tell you my pairs in case that helps with ideas?

    Pastel (f) x Bumblebee (m)
    Albino (f) x Het Albino (m)
    Spider (m) x Lesser (f) - Coming tomorrow!! :D
Het GS (f) - thinking of pairing with my bumblebee unless I can afford a visual genetic stripe male in the next couple of years :)

I won't be ready to breed for around 2 to 3 years. I was a little impulsive and instead of buying my females first I've grabbed what I can where I can :)

Yeah I was also impulsive with mine. Actually I went to buy a tarantula and fell in love with this guy which i bought instead

Since them I'm reading, educating myself and came to same conclusion about breeding BPs. I'll never be sorry for this impulsive buy tho. He's such a special nut case I came to love forever <3 Probably the first and the last in terrarium. Maybe his sweetheart others will just be in rack system. Easier and less space consuming option.

The only thing is what to do with all the hatchlings then? ;) And i must move to a bigger apartment before anything.

Yeah in small apartments there's waste of space with terrariums. They look nice and everything but waste space so yeah. I'll be building a rack in a closet for my new ones :P Already making plans in my head just need to go shopping for some kind of a rack or closed that can be rebuilt in rack way ;) Or maybe i'll just rearrange clothes in available closets and rebuild them ;) Saving money is always welcome

I might be buying two 6ft shelving units for £6 ($10 ish) which I'm going to join together to make a rack then all I need are more heat mats ;)

Re: Just something that gave me a little giggle
Dirty cheap ;) I believe here such wooden shelves cost around 15-20£ but it's quite cheap and would do the trick :P I've seen a picture of such a nice Victorian closed made into a tank rack ... damn lovely

I'm thinking of something enclosed at least from one side so the humidity and heat can be kept at bay.

BTW I'm from Europe $ signs do me no good :P And converting using google works magic for me

Yeah I use google! Sorry didn't check your area :) These shelves are in a house clearance and the woman wants rid so hoping they will work out :) If I can make a rack very cheap I can't complain :D

Couldn't agree more ;) I'll probably just modify one of existing closets into a snake rack ;) Just need to find cheap plastic tubs.

Need to find me interesting females in near future :P
