Without weight its hard to tell. What and how often are you feeding?
As long its eating... feed it

By the look of your hand compared to his mid section, he might be ready for medium rats, but it may be the camera. If that growth is what you call rapid then I do not know what the hell I have done to my retic, lol. He looks good, but a weight would help significantly.

Weights would help more. It doesn't sound like you are overfeeding by feeding once a week and if he is taking it. He looks healthy to me :)

Some people shift to a 10 day feeding schedule or even a 14 day over a certain weight, hence the weight questions.

Balls are well known for not eating if they aren't hungry. If you feed an appropriate size food item once a week you should be good, trust me if he wants a break he will take one... Or more then 1, be thankful while he is eating!
Adult males can be switched to a 10 day feeding but I have not had to do so yet, if they are not breeding I feed slightly smaller and if they are I give them as much as they want while they will eat.

    He looks great.

Keep in mind all creatures grow at different rates as well, I have 2012 babies that range from 500g-1400g, all eating once a week but some just gained more weight and size faster than others.
