Cold and hot side hide habits
Hey this is kind of a random question but my bp seems to spend all her time in her cold side hide its so weird. I have identical hides (88-90) hot side and (77-79) cold side. Its so weird i thought so randomly that one may be bigger lol so i switched them (i know its dumb :P). Nevertheless i have seen her night and day and she is always on the cold side. Any ideas?

88 to 90 degree ambient temp? Or 88 to 90 degrees at the substrate?

My snakes usually seem to prefer the cool side over the warm side except right after feeding. Once in awhile they switch it up so I check the wrong hide 1st but, it isn't all that often.

If it's recently perhaps its the season??? Every morning I check on mine they are up at the cool end as it gets later in the day they start moving towards the warm then back again overnight.

I know you dint have all the answers but could I experiment and do this with my baby bp? He NEVER NEVER uses the hot side (well as far as i know). Or you think it will stress him?

If he never uses the hot side I would recheck the temp

not sure what you mean by "temp it" but I use I a digital therm w/probe to read it...I use a uth for the hot side and a space heater to keep ambient temps good...all in 28qt tub

All looks good, I'd keep it in there in case he uses it when you don't see... it hurts nothing by leaving it in

Is she older? All of my adult females are hanging out on the cool side right now. My cool side is 75-78, none have hides on either side. I wouldn't stress too much. Your cool side temps are plenty high for me to not worry about her. If your cool side was below 75 I would worry.

she is 1 and a half years old. It could be the season I'm just surprised that she would stay there because with the season its even colder sorta thing. My cool side varies typically its 75-78 like yours. lowest is 74 but it doesn't stay 74 long u know what i mean like sometimes at night it goes down to 74 ish

She just ate and yet still she remains in the cold side hide. She never leaves it and i just don't understand why. Is that normal?

How does one have a 1/2 lesser 1/2 normal specimen?

Some animals have particular individual habits, ask around and you find several animals that stay on the hot side.

Yeah mine stays in his hot side hide constantly. Only when roaming around he tends to stay on the cool side. He can be for days in his hot hide only moving around it's hide.

Is there any other possible difference between the hot/cold side that she would prefer one over another? Different hides and she feels more secure in the cold one? That's also an option.

If temperatures are as they should be and the humidity is the same on both sides then I wouldn't worry too much it's just what she prefers apparently ;)

I wouldn't worry, as long as the temps are good, s/he's eating and drinking and pooping. :)

Mine has WEEKS where he will only go in one hide, then switches (hot vs. cold side as well).

Yah both sides are identical and temps as stated so I guess from the sounds of it its a female thing this time of the year. However, she hasn't pooped for quite some time. Eating normally and pees but no poop

    Again, snakes are funny ;)
I had mine for 2 months and didn't find a poop. Everything was fine, and now he poops almost every week.
I have heard that some only poop after shedding, some it's like clockwork, and some... like every couple of months. They're all different! Sounds to me like everything is dandy.
