Well there is this little waterfall at a pet store that i thought would keep the humidity at a nice level. it basically uses a pump to pump water to the top and the water falls down a rock into a little bathing area.
the front of the box has a little lizard on it so it is not really aimed toward pythons. Just curious if anyone knows what i'm talking about and has used it or know someone who has used it....? thanks

I think i might know what you are talking about. I dont think it should be too much of a problem as long as you can make sure your bp cannot get stuck in it or it posses any kind of hazard whatsoever. I just use a big enough water dish to help keep my bp's humidity level correct. Are you housing your bp in a aquarium style tank or a rubbermaid?

led4urhead's 3am "man am i tired post"
i have a huuuuge tank. i invested a lot of money into the tank..so i'm just not quite ready to switch to the rubbermaids yet. it's a 30 gallon tank...3 feet long, 1 foot tall, 1 foot wide. there's plenty of room for it

hey...LaVale, MD....my mom is in Beltsville, MD right now :D (sorry...yeah that was completely off the wall..i know...)

Been away for a while...need a refresher
i wouldnt think it should not bother a snake. i always wondered if the pump would annoy the snake. i wanted to get one too. there are 2 kinds i have seen one theat is larger and wraped mostly in plastic, it comes with the pumps, and all you have to do is plug it in. i think it wa around 40 bucks, the only other kind i saw was from the makers of the little repti-den rockl that comes apart. it did not come with anything cept the structure, and it was like 25 bucks. smaller too i think. i have been thinking about getting a waterfall for sometime now, but decided not to due to the vibrations, and one of the snakes is afraid of water. when i mist the cage roo will hide. she hates water, and getting wet. i think i am going to get the ultra sonic fogger, and let that roll down like a waterfall..

Ok answer this.....
at some stores they sell these little bowls with these neon lights and they have a fogger inside them...all you put in is water and the bowl will fill up with fog..they look very nice, but are they snake safe?? i've wanted to put one of them in my cage but i'm scared there will be TOO much fog..but i guess i can just keep an eye on my humidity and turn it on and off as needed...
does anyone have one of these foggers? i've seen them at a store called Romancing the Stone..

i actualy just got a fogger made by exo-terra. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1091334228424 it is a little gadget that turns water into a low level of fog. it does that alright, but i think they were meant for setups that actualy have a nice water level. it splashes water in about a 6-10 inch ring around the source of the fog. making a huge mess in the tank. when the water level gets too low, it shuts off on it's own. i am returning this first thing in the morning. it is really good for maybe a frog or turtle setup, again something with lots of water. i am investing in a hand pump mister instead. i can attach one to each cage, and just pum p and let it mist. seeing as how i only need to do it every few day i think it should be minimal work on my part. the fogger is a good idea, and i love to see fog inthe tank, but i am not letting my snakes set in that much airborne moisture. i think it could hurt them it is soo wet, and can take humidity levels up to 100%. thats to high for me. one more thing that bothered me is the need for chords to go inside the tank. i would have to cut a hole in the screen.. not what i want to do. invest in frogs or wet pets and then get one.. 100% humidity that can stay for days isnt good i think..

I actually made a water fall of sorts for my bp's home, I got one of those fish tank filter/pump, its an all in one unit, it hangs on the back of a small tank by a hook thing thats part of the plastic... I modified it, so it sits in a small kitty litter pan, the bottom of it, where the pump is, is submersed in water like it should be in order for it to work, and it stays standing up in thier home (in thier pool) by a HUGE suction cup that I used to modify the filter/pumps original design so it would stay up against the wall of the glass tank. It works VERY well, helps maintain my humidity, although got to watch it at times, and got to make sure I refill thier pool regularly cause the water does evaporate a bit, also, the filter/pump, has a slide switch on it for 3 speeds. They love it, there was one point in time I had it out of thier cage for a week and a half, I could tell they seemed to feel thier home was just not right.. so I put it back in, plugged it back in, and they started thier normal cruising around and soaking in thier pool just cause.... and no they dont have mites, they just seem to really like water..at least 1 of them more so than the others. They are able to crawl all over the top of it, where the water comes out without it coming off the wall of the tank. However, I am sure this design could be modified for using a rubber maid.. like drilling a slit into the rubber maid where the original hook should come out side of the rubber maid to hold it upright. I clean mine regularly with vinegar and water mix, I even run the pump while it in the v & w mix, helps get rid of water deposits..although, I still have some on mine, it is just not building up.. I just dont feel comfortable using household cleaners or bleach... might make my bp's sick, or mess up my creation. I will try to get pics so you get the idea.
I like it, been using it for awhile now, thier home is in my room, so it does sound like a waterfall, I cant sleep anymore without it being on... it serves so many purposes.

can't wait to see em. i considered making a waterfall, but my ideals are too elaborate, and i have yet to figure out one i can actualy make.
-
Jeanne, i have trouble visualizing what you've done...lol...could you post pictures?
-
I just bought a fogger (My BP is shedding and instead of misting three to four times a day to keep humidity up I bought the fogger $40 at pet smart) like the one Kontron described above and like he said it splashed water everwhere so I made an enclosure out of a 20 ounce gatorade bottle and a tupperware top. I cut the top off of the bottle and hot glued a circle I cut from the tupperware top onto the top of the bottle then cut a 1"x1" notch in the side at the top. Then put the fogger and some water in it and it works perfect no splashing water around soaking the tank and substrate and the humidity stays between 70 and 80 percent which works great for my shedding BP.

I'll post some pics probably tomorrow so you can get a visual if I get a chance.
-
yeah pictures are so helpful...it would be appreciated
-
hmmm.. thats a great idea.. i may re-invest if i can build a natural looking structure to house something like that. i did like the way the fog looked. and if i could have it come out of a rock formation instead of a bottle, i would be sooOo happy. :)
:bounce:
-
how long do youlet it run for? i was afraid i might fill the cage with too much fog at some point... LOL..
-
What I am going to do is probably buy one of the skull looking hides from petsmart or a hide with holes all in it. Then find a glass or just the gatorade bottle and cut it short enough to fit under it with about 1/2" space between the top of the hide and the bottle. That way the ugly bottle will be hidden and the fog will roll out from the top of the bottle and out through the holes in the mouth and eyes of the skull or the holes in the hide. I thought the skull would be kool cause the fogger glows a light red and would look good inside the skull glowing. I just fill it up about 1" above the fog sensor with water and that usually lasts long enough to keep the humidity up then automatically shuts off. It really just depends on your setup you will just have to play with it to find out what water level is right for you.
-
thats a very cool idea. i was going to look for a structure that could hold a bottle, and have holes for the fog to roll out of. i think a waterfall structure may work well. replace the pump with the fog machine. when you do build you should post some pics.. i would be interested to see the skull idea in action.
-
well what i would suggest is just keeping an eye on humidity. make sure you have 2 (maybe even one more) humidity guages and if humidity starts getting high, just unplug it...surely somewhere there is an automatic fogger that will give off fog for 20 or so minutes then shut off for a few hours. i'd buy it.
-
Well here are some pics of my fogger setup so far works very well. I have the water level perfect now so it runs for about 15 minutes then automatically shuts off. In one of the pics you can see on the left side of the bottle where I cut out a notch for the fog to go out of. The top is just tupperware top hot glued to the bottle and the cord runs out of the top. I have tried to post the pics on here but it never works so here are the links to them. When I upgrade to 30 or 40 gallon tanks I'm gonna do the skull Idea in both tanks I just don't have enough room now to put it in. I know my cage looks like a science experiment with all those wires running to it. Its not the best looking thing but it works great for what I need.

Or you could post them inside [img][/img] tags and have them show up in your post :)
It looks like a really cool setup! Good job! Hows the humidity now?
Edit: Can your snake get inside of it?

Oh Oh....Butt first !!

Thanks alot for the help led4urhead I am not very good at posting pics. Humidity is perfect and no my snake cannot get inside.
-
Very cool man. Great work!
-
Yep dat sure looks good! Good stuff!
Given that my natural climate is humid, is it advisable to have a waterfall installed ?
-
thanks for the visual. i never thought about the red light. it would look cool coming out of a skull. i think i may attempt it again next paycheck... thanks for showing me.. i really wanted to keep the fogger, but the splashing angered me.
-
i wouldnt think the waterfall would change the humidity any more then the bowl of water if it was the same ammount.
-
I don't know about the waterfall I doubt it would change the humidity too much.
-
kontron ... are you planing on taking the water bowl out. Your snake needs somewhere to drink from :). Putting the fogger in there will probably change the humidity because you are adding humidity to the cage with the fog. Too much humidity for prolonged periods is almost just as bad as too little.
-
ohh i would not take the waterbowl out, but i would find a structure that could give him water, climbing, hide the fog setup and provide a secure resting spot. or at least this can all fit inside a 20 gal very easily. it is like mini architechuring. i was in landscaping, but had to gbet out cause the pay sucked. so i like to do stuff like this. the humidity would not be an issue, cause i would only run the mister like 15 minutes every few days. like misting the cage....i have only had roswell a few months, i am very paranois and wake in the middle of the night to check his temps... i was sad today. they dropped down to 76 and 78 degrees while i was gone. it was a very cold day for summer in san diego.
