    Badgemash's 2014 Axanthic Season Thread
I figured I'd make one thread for all of my breeding posts this season, mostly for my own organization, but also to share with anyone who's interested. My season is off and running with the first lock (locks actually, SSD was pretty eager ;)) between Bubbles my 2,300g VPI Axanthic girl, and Starry Starry Dude the 1,540g male pied. SSD wasted no time and was doing his duty within an hour of arriving in Bubbles' tub, please forgive the poor quality phone pic, I didn't want to disrupt them. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0db0de78.jpg
Cornelia the pastel axanthic girl has just passed 1,500g, I'm going to wait until at least 1,600g and then start pairing her with Yellow Dude my Killerbee het Axanthic male (who as you can see from the pic lives one floor up from Bubbles).

Just introduced Yellow Dude (killerbee het ax) to Cornelia (pastel ax). He's been in her tub for all of two minutes and she's SLAMMING her little tail around like it's on fire and squirting out scent (or musk or whatever you want to call it) puddles all over the her tub. I tried to get video but it's too dark for my little phone camera, but hopefully I'll get a lock pic in a few hours to keep me cheerful tomorrow while I clean up what is rapidly developing into an epic mess in there (YD is now pooping in a scent puddle).

If they did it, I missed it :(. They were all curled up together in the morning looking pretty content. I cleaned the tub, cleaned them up (they were both covered in smears of various snake by-products), and put them back together, but they're not interested. I'm giving them a 2 week break and then we'll try again. The other two (pied male x axanthic female) however are going to town, I keep missing them separated so I can put him back in his tub (I saw them separated Monday night, but the phone rang and by the time I came back they were locked again), but I'm not too upset by that, especially since they haven't decided to empty every possible snake fluid from their bodies all over the tub, water bowl, and each other.

So I opened the tub to separate the regular axanthic girl and the pied male, and I was really confused for a moment, I think she's glowing!!! She shed on Friday, but I don't remember her looking this light then, and her belly is pink like she's going back into shed only 5 days later? I keep doubting myself and thinking maybe she just really cleaned up after shedding last week, but the first spot on the back of her head is abnormally light for sure. I'll take a few more pics over the next few days to get a consistent baseline (same time of day, lighting, camera etc.) but it certainly seems odd. And even looking at the dark pic at the start of this thread I think there's something happening, but I only started pairing them a few weeks ago, this seems awfully fast!

Body shot (it's a little but over flashed I think, since IRL it's more prominent on her head and tail)

Head and bit of tail (I think this one is about spot on for contrast, maybe a touch warm)

    Boom diggity!
I just went to take a comparison shot to yesterday's photo to figure out this whole "glow" thing. I'll add the photo from the good camera when I get to work tomorrow (laptop is down, so I'm currently limited to office computer and my ipad). But I was too excited when I opened the tub and saw this, so here is a crummy ipad pic with skewed color. She's parked right above where the heat tape crosses underneath.

Sigh, I had her palpated by two experienced palpators (is that even a word :confusd:), neither felt anything yet, but at least she's doing something. She's eating like an absolute beast though, so I'll have her palpated again soon.

That's weird they didn't feel anything she looks so lumpy in that last pic! But I hope everything works out. Keep us updated :)

Frankly I was pretty shocked, but it's supposed to be a sign of building, so I'll just keep feeding, pairing, and getting her felt up by experienced people (I thought I felt something when I tried, but it turned out to be a rather sizeable impending poo ).

The Lock I've Been Waiting For!
I finally caught them at it, and in a position that I could get proof! Here's Yellow Dude the Killerbee het Axanthic locked up with Cornelia the Pastel Axanthic. I love Miss Bubbles, she's my big squishy girl, but THIS is the pairing I've wanted to do from the start. When YD was paired with Bubbles last year they produced 80% visuals, so I'm curious what he'll throw this time (assuming everything goes well lol, which I think we all know is a long way off from this point :D).

Bubbles (just axanthic) is still locking regularly with Starry Starry Dude (pied), building, and eating like a pig, she just weighed in at 2,652g (almost 1,000g heavier than she was this time last year). She's not the greatest ax in the world, but not as brown as the pic makes her look either, axanthics are such a pain to photograph.

Also, sorry for all the urates in the pics, I have some messy little humbugs. Not sure why I always clean tubs before pairing...

    Nope, just that one pairing.

Update: The big axanthic girl has 4 follicles now in the ping pong ball size stage, and either 2 or 3 smaller ones mixed in (it feels like OOooOoO or OOoOoO not sure yet) and is going into shed! :D

Her little runt baby from last year (tiny egg, hardly any yolk, 32g female pastel axanthic) who refused to eat and has been assist fed since last September finally ate all by herself tonight also, so I'm in a pretty good mood right now.

The pastel axanthic girl is eating like a beast and doing some lumping/bowl wrapping, so hopefully something good is underway.
