Cresties are wicked easy. And, they have minimal requirements compared to say even a beardie.
Blue tongued skinks are pretty fricken cool though. I don't have any yet but, can see them becoming part of the collection.

I don't know if it really gets an easier than some snakes, they are pretty low maint. How old is your brother? If he doesn't want a snake I'm assuming he is looking at a lizard? What does he consider easy, are you talking husbandry requirements, feeding schedule, ease of handling?

Cresties, leos, beardies, blue tongue skinks... they are pretty easy to care for and are generally docile.

He dosent partiulary like snakes, he is nearly 11 and had an african ygmy hedgehog which took loads of time and care (R.I.P fluffy) so he has loads of time but he is pretty much broke

are you planning on helping him care for it, ensure that it has a proper setup and gets fed. As an 11 year old it would be hard to expect him to be able to go to the store and get food, etc. If he is going to have help than any of the lizards listed would be a good start.

    Crested Geckos.
They don't require special heat, lighting, or feeder insects. As long as your house ambient isn't too cold, they do well in room temp.
They can eat a powder+water mushed mixture. Just mist them every few days and they're good to go.

Crested gecko for sure. No need for special heat or lighting, food is a powder mixed with water, they're super docile, etc.

Unless your bro is something special (which he very well may be) leaving the feeding and cleaning up to him will be a mistake. My 13 year old step son wanted a bearded dragon of his own. Needless to say the beadie was mine after a few weeks (or he would have suffered and lived a poor life). Just be perpared to add another pet to "your" collection. With all that said, I hope for the best. And I too vote for a crestie or leopard gecko. Leopard geckos require a little more care but are easier to handle.

Don't forget that cresties don't like it warm. They're fine to recommend for folks who keep their houses in the mid to upper 70s but people like me, who's home is often in the mid 80s during summer days, make poor candidates for this species. After all, it's much easier to create a hot spot than it is a cool spot.

for sure, when I was 11 I would have never been responsible enough to feed/clean anything for more than a week before I decided I'd rather be doing something else. It will be your new pet before too long IMO, I'd make him read up on whatever you decide to get as part of this to see if he can stay interested in it enough to do a little book work first.

What about a uromastyx? They are vegetarian and don't require water. High heat.

    Crestie.

If he's had a hedgehog with success as far as independence of care goes, he could probably even handle a Beardie or Leopard Gecko, honestly.

Some 11-year-olds are quite responsible. My daughter isn't the other half of SV Exotics for nothing, and she's 11. I trust her to care for every single animal here, from the tarantulas to the rainbow boa. Not that I'd leave her to care for all that I have on her own, but she could. HOWEVER, she has always been passionate about animals. There are plenty of other things she's abandoned quickly *looks at lonely drum set in the bedroom*

If your brother really enjoys having a pet, I see no reason to not trust him with a reptile like a crestie or leo. They're even less maintenance than a hedgehog (I'm going to assume the hedgie died of natural causes and not bad husbandry)
