Big snake

Hi guys, i recently brought by first female normal, she is nearly a year and very small. I want to make her be as big and long as possible (soon possibly) is there a way of doing that that dosent involve her getting obese or dying young. Is there an easy way?

What are you considering very small, how much does she weigh, how long is she? What are you feeding her?

I feed her 2 small mice a week, i wil go measure her in a few mins

she is also terrible at shedding (no bad sheds but only every 3 months or sumthin)

Yes. Feed her a properly sized meal once a week. You won't get explosive growth, but you will get solid, steady growth and eventually you'll end up with a big girl.

By a solid meal wat do u recomend

again we don't really know her size, but I would bump up to rats, couldn't tell you what size rat since we don't know your snakes size.

Depends on her age and what she weighs. You said she's about a year old, but what's her weight (in grams, please)?

Length not so important.

She can be eating rat pups easily. Maybe weaned rats depending on size of the rats.

For her size, she should be getting 10% to 15% of her bodyweight at each meal. You can do the meals every 5 to 7 days. When she reaches around 500 grams you can cut back to 7 days.

As she gets older, the 10% to 15% rule won't apply anymore. Some people feed their adults small rats, some medium rats.

That's just a guideline. There isn't really one formula for success. Other people do things differently with great success as well.

You'll need to figure out what works for you and for her and make modifications as needed, but that should give you a relatively decent start.

332g for a yearling that feeds on a,regular basis, hmm....thats on the quite small side. I have an 11 month old whos pushing 1300g, and a 4 month old whos just over 300g. Id bet she could take larger prey than small mice

i sometimes feed her every 2 weeks if she leaves the food, is that bad?

Yours sounds pretty small. Bump her hup to rats and she will hopefully start getting some size on her.

She is on the smaller side for her age.

You start getting some rats into her on a regular basis and she'll grow quickly.

^This chart is approximate but, your BP should eat about 10-15% of it's body weight.
Temp's definitely can affect metabolism and therefore feeding. Even individual temperment can have an effect, those of us with multiple snakes of the same species can all likely relate how some are just better feeders in identical set-ups or how some small changes seem to help our snakes with a poorer feed response feel more comfortable and eat more regularly.

If you post pics of your set up I am sure you will get a ton of suggestions you can try to see what works best in your situation.
