Hmm, turning a tub into a display cage?
Well I was just looking at some ideas for my Dumeril's permanent home and I just possibly had a great idea, maybe lol

We all know how awesome tubs are for holding humidity, ease of cleaning, etc. I want those same advantages of a tub but I also want to see my snake since she's going to be nice and big, it would just be nice to see her without having to disturb her. I would use the Iris Ve-175 rack for this which is 52''x20"x14"
I planned on buying an animal plastics cage, which I can still easily do if this plan isn't a good idea, but here's my idea.

Could you cut the middle of the tub out (on the long side) and replace it with glass/plexiglass? I would not cut the top or sides of the tub so not to mess with the integrity and strength of the tub, just cut a rectangle out in the middle. I would then build a 1 tub rack out probably out of melamine and leave one side open, but have strong support on each end. So basically a imagine a 1 tub rack with one side missing, but about a 6" piece in front to hold the front together.
So basically a 1 tub rack with a viewing window.
    What do you guys think?

I think someone makes something like that for larger boa / snakes racks.

Keep us updated on the project if you go ahead with it.

It's certainly possible, the question will be if it looks good enough to be a display cage when it's finished. (and that really just comes down to how handy you are)

ARS does something similar with some of their larger tubs: http://www.arscaging.com/ars8514.html

I like those tubs with the windows, I just wish the window was bigger.

Yeah, they are really designed to allow you to check on the snake without opening the tub and not for display purposes, but the concept is similar.

I'm also wondering what I would use to adhere the glass to the plastic..
Would plexiglass work or would it be too flimsy?

I would go with ⅛ or ¼ inch thick plexigalss and rivet it to the plastic. There are adhesives designed for this as well. Even machine screws and acorn nuts would work.

Ah yeah forgot I could just rivet it to the plastic lol brain fart.
    Thanks, Aaron.
If this one works out I will use it for my future gtp baby.

I think you could do it. Maybe put some decorative trim along the window to hide the rivets if ya wanna go the extra mile. Keep it classy :)

Its very possible. I've seen quite a few impressive display tubs. One was a plastic storage trunk that had the front cut out and replaced with plexiglass. If I can find the picture again, I'll post it.
