I need some advice!!!!

We have gone through another not so successful shed. I am at a loss as to what to do :| . When I got Atticus 3 months ago( given away because somene did not want to take of him anymore :cry: he was not very healthy very dehydrated and in the middle of what looked like a very miserable shed. I have all the right temps, hum, and soaking often, before and during the shed I even used shed eaze this time and here we are again with the shed over and still loosing scales all over and spots that look and feel very different than other parts. Is it just going to take him some time to get healthy? He was not in a descent tank with proper heat ect.. untill he came here. I believe he is about 2-3 yrs. old He is about 3.5 feet long and very girthy so is that about right?? I would apprecaite some knowledgable feed back. THANKS :D

Whats your humidity in the enclosure, and what are you using to measure the humdity?

I keep the humidity between 60 75% I have a thing that looks like a dial gauge but it is for humidity but we live in the heart of the desert and it is extremely dry here could that have something to do with it.

I hate to break it to you, but those things are notoriously unreliable. Please get the Acu-Rite model from WalMart for $15 or something similar in accuracy. It could very well make the difference on his next shed.

yeah thats not a bad idea. i was thinking i was all cool with my multiple analog gauges until i got on this site and took the advice of everyone and got the acurite. then i saw how incredibly far off my little gauges were and i felt pretty uncool. not to mention guilty about not having had everything set right for my little snakey. :(

My guy just finished his shed yesterday and did great but the first shed he did for me wasn't to good. What I did this time was to , mist the sides of the tank often and even a little mist on him every now and then, but what I think did it was some moss I used called terrarium moss, soaked it warm water and placed some around his tank and under his Hide, kept humidity around 75 for shedding....I'm no expert but it worked for me and my BP.

Sorry I did not reply I was still logged in and did not know it. I will look for some new devices for humidity and temps. I have looked at our local wal-mart before and been told that thay do not know what i am talking about So could you let me know what department I could begin to look in. Thanks for all the feedback. Mine was in the outdoor lighting section of wally world. It's different in every one though. You asked for the outdoor thermometers and they didn't know what you were talking about?

Generally they're in the hardware section, near paint and fans and such, with the huge thermometers that you can hang on a wall.

If you guys are having repeated bad sheds, and aren't doing anything about the overall humidity of the enclosure; you need to be soaking them a couple of times after you notice their eyes turn blue, and maybe once right when you notice their eyes clear up but not shed skin yet. It will at least allow them to have a complete shed.

I agree about the soaking. It will definately improve the sheds. I got desperate with my male back when I got him and he had retained eyecaps; I put him in a shallow rubbermaid overnight, and I made it really humid so that there was condensation all inside the walls and lid of the rubbermaid, and I also used sopping-wet unmilled sphagnum moss. I put him in this super humid environment as soon as his eyes went blue, and the shed came off like a dream with all those nasty eyecaps gone.
Soaking in warm water, in addition to putting them in a superhumid rubbermaid (with the heatpad undernneath and hidespots, of course) should do the trick.
