NEW Kahl Albino
-
Very pretty! Congrats on him - looks like he's got some size to him. What year is he?
-
Re: NEW Kahl Albino
Not sure of age. Just asked the guy I got him from.
He's about 4½-5'. Plan on breeding him next October. He's in quarantine for the next six months so no going near my girls until then.

Did you just get this guy today?

What about you not taking in anymore snakes for a year in regards to your boa that was showing iffy behavior (post #79, 11/4/13)?

Is your other boa still acting strange?

Thank you for your concern for my snakes, however you're wrong.
First of all... Why do you say 1½ months tops? Please don't make things up, because it's actually been close to three months, Shann.
In fact the link you posted contradicts your statement. :/

Thanks again for your concern!

Yeah. Whatever.
On a boa forum on 9-6-13 you posted this.

I have never felt anxious at all when buying or even wanting to buy a snake. I've been excited, and happy, but not like this! I've been like a little kid the week before Christmas!.............
. I think part of the reason I feel like that is because I've always loved Dumeril's and I've been waiting to meet this guy and possibly buy one for a while now. Guess I am just tired of waiting and I am a V.E.R.Y patient person when needed but I cannot be patient right now for some reason. I know that it's the day after tomorrow but that honestly seems unbearable for some darn reason! I've never experienced this before... Anyone else ever get like that? Or do you have any suggestions as to how I can try and calm down and be a little patient? The hardest thing for me is that I don't even know why I'm acting and feeling like I am.
So as of that date, two months and three days ago, you didn't HAVE your dumerils. So I don't know what exact day you got her. But that is TWO MONTHS from when you were THINKING about getting a dumerils, to TWO WEEKS ago when you posted the video of that very same dumerils in with all your other snakes. That means the MAXIMUM amount of time you could have kept your dumerils in quarantine is ONE AND A HALF MONTHS, assuming you bought her that day and posted that video the day she came out of quarantine. Which doesn't count as quarantine. Especially when you don't have experience identifying problems in snakes. If you only quarantine for a month and a half, it doesn't count as really quarantining.
Keep you lies straight Erik.

I have to say, you literally make me laugh out loud! I can't help but point out some gems that you've posted via YouTube that gave me a good chuckle too:
"You shouldn't own snakes if you're afraid of them.
You only handling the babies tells me your afraid of your boas. Btw... I was bitten by my 7-8 footer yesterday. Doesn't hurt. Feels like a dog bite"
"@ThatReptileDood these snakes are too big for a second person to effectively help in the event of a feeding bite or wrap in general. If they get you, you better a crew of people... Otherwise do it alone, because one additional person will not be able to get an adult Burm or Retic off of you"
"This isn't cool. It's unnatural, and wrong to create hybrids. I love Balls, and I love Burns, but this is not cool on many levels. Shame on you, CaptiveBredUK"
"I own boas and Balls... Ball pythons definitely suck compared to BCI's and Dumeril's. Anyone breeding as many Ball Python's as you and your father are greedey and are in it for fancy colors and dollar bills. Sorry to say it."
"Sorry to say it, but gerbils are horrible to feed. They are VERY fat, and if you want a healthy, lean snake, I'd do rats :)"
BTW if that's black tape on the hides in the albino's enclosure I'd remove them.

You already posted a link to my personal YouTube channel... Don't act like that.
-
It's not another reptile forum. Tons of people have linked to videos.
-
Actually, never mind. Since I see daybreaker linked to ssnakess, I'll link to rtb. If I get in trouble for it so be it. A mod can remove the link if they need to.
Here's the thread I was referring to. So now that I've linked to it, care to address my actual point?
http://www.redtailboa.net/forums/jus...-saturday.html
And oh look, here you picked her up, posted this on 9-7-13:
http://www.redtailboa.net/forums/hel...r-feeding.html
So my point still stands. The maximum amount of time you could have had her quarantined was 1.5 months. Max.

Re: NEW Kahl Albino
I just thought about it and you're right, Shann. I got her September 7th. For some reason that was three months in my mind. You were right.HOWEVER, you need to go somewhere else if you're looking for an argument. I'm not going to play that game. We've all been immature on these forums. If you don't like what I post, just don't open my threads. It's seriously thay easy. Say what you want, post whatever links you want... I'm not replying to negativity. It's just uncalled for and stupid.
Edit: I just saw the links you posted and like I said in the beginning of this post... I did my math wrong. You were very right about that, and that was stupid of me.

Re: NEW Kahl Albino
Erik,
This isn't something you want to mess up.
You need to get quarantine between boas and balls exactly right if there is a possible IDB issues with the boas.
I'm not talking just on a snake health issue here I'm speaking on your chances of ever selling a single ball python to anyone ever.
Lay out your quarantine rules, especially between species, or the previous posts are going to bite you in the butt - a lot.

I understand. My BCI that I thought showed signs of IBD is nowhere near my other boids. They are not coming into contact with each other AT ALL. Once I've been around Cupcake, the one I thought had IBD symptoms, I put my clothes in the washer, take a shower and I don't go near my other snakes. I do not think she has it but I'm not stupid enough to risk it.

Erik the thing is I now only reply to your threads when I am concerned about the animals wellbeing. I don't care about what you do with your life one bit, which is why I ignored the majority of your posts about opening up a breeding facility and arguing about being in college or not. But the snake you thought might have IBD is Cupcake. And you posted this on another forum just today:
Quote:
Hey, Everyone. Picking up an awesome Albino red tail tomorrow [male].
My female has been cooling down for about a week. I plan on introducing them in like 4 weeks. He's 5 ft, she's 7', 18 LBS. Both mature enough to make some babies. However Cupcake is a little nervous when other people are in her cage. She's bitten me before, in just the few weeks I've had her! I'm nervous to put the male in there because I'm paying very good money for him, so I don't want him to get injured. Will she behave differently to other snakes or should I be worried about her biting him?
So this contradicts what you said above. You did go on to say that you would wait, which you should but this quote is my big concern:
Quote:
*face palm* totally didn't even think about quarantine.
I've got several healthy snakes from the same person so I guess I didn't even think about quarantine.
Quarantine is majorly important. It has been stressed again and again so I'm not sure how you're "forgetting it" everytime you pick up a new animal. One sick snake can wipe out your whole collection. There are no second chances with that. And what's more, if you sell that animal to someone and it wipes out their collection (which it shouldn't with proper quarantine, but that's another story) they tell others that the animal came from you, and that could ruin your reputation as a breeder.
And since you don't believe your own quotes unless I 'prove' it here is the source.

Can you describe you QT protocols?
Maybe we can help you out and give suggestions if you're missing anything.
In this hobby, QT is no joke.
I'd also suggest actually QTing your Boas for at least a year. IBD can lay dormant up to a year before becoming active.
Hope your possible IBD snake is IBD free. Otherwise, that'll be bad for you and your entire collection.
-
Re: NEW Kahl Albino
I thought I QT'd Duma for three months but turns out it was two, need to pay more attention... Basically I just spend the first few months of QT watching the snakes behavior. If something seems off, they stay in QT. I like to make sure they poo, urate, and eat okay before considering putting the QT'd snake with the rest. I'm keeping cupcake QT'd for 6 months. Everyone has told me that pythons die very quickly when they get IBD, so if cupcake has it/transfers it to my collection, I'll know fairly quickly. Basically once cupcake is in with my collection, I'll get my Kahl from my aunt and keep him where Cupcake was kept. I have room to QT both of them, but I paid a lot of money for him... NO WAY IN THE WORLD I'm risking that.. Since the head wobble thing I've been very very cautious about QT. No one in my room, if I need to handle my snakes, I do it before I'm near cupcake, then I move onto cupcake. Once I'm done with her, I shower, throw my clothes in the washer and grab some new clothes, and I still don't go around my collection until the next day. It's not something casual. Whether or not anyone thinks I'm a responsible keeper, I'm not dumb enough to expose my snakes to something like a possible case of IBD.

I'm concerned. You keep collecting animals.
You were banned from Red Tail Boa . NET,
You have been asking some of the most elementary questions about snake growth, have been concerned about IBD and in general have not looked like somebody that has studied these animals.
I know you are only 16. I like/liked the enthusiasm you show in your video and I think you are trying to do the right thing. However, you are moving WAY too fast.
At 16, you are just at the start of REAL life. Graduation, work, post high school education, friends, girls, parties and setting out on your own will change your life in ways you can't imagine.
Animals are not a fad, or something you have when you're in the mood and then dump when life changes. The commitment is real, and with snakes, it's quite long. Yes, they are an easy pet, but too many can be a bit more trying.
You have a pregnant Dumerils boa and you are buying more snakes? Not wise at this point. How can you begin to enjoy the ones you have now when you are continuing to buy more and will be caring for a bunch of babies soon?
As I said on another board.
SLOW DOWN! Enjoy what you have and don't become a snake farmer/breeder.
I see a theme starting here like I did on the other board.
If you see a similar theme of people (different people) on this board saying the same things as the other board, you should take notice. There are experienced people here!
I like you, but I'm seeing things that raise concern!
-
Wonderful advice, Gio, now if only it would ever sink in.
Also, is that tape on that cardboard? Really not a good idea. Just google tape stuck to snakes.
-
No offense to anyone, but he's backpedaling now and any sane person shouldn't let him. The damage is done, and I, for one, will not forget the words typed here and elsewhere.
Also, where'd the leaves go? I can understand the grave thing but what about a paper turkey? A pilgrim hat? The tape is a no no though

I read the threads on RTB.net last night.
They were identical to the ones posted here on BP.net. It was uncanny.
The common trend between the two forums seemed to be Erik saying something and the experienced members saying the opposite. (The experienced members suggesting he: 1) Do research before acquiring more animals 2) Fix his husbandry/mistakes 3) Do more research 4) Slow down + Think 5) Do more research 6) Stop ignoring the experienced keepers - his animals will benefit from the advice 7) Don't breed 8) Do more research. etc etc )
Thus prompting him to ignore much of the given advice and continue on with his own agenda.....
If that many people are saying the same thing and giving the same advice, it's probably a good indicator to listen Erik.
I agree Kodie. I don't think many people will forget this guy. Not to mention all of his threads and posts are public record.

This thread is about my Kahl Albino. Don't want to talk about it, don't post here (or at least don't expect a reaction)
-
You can't control yourself enough not to give us a reaction. Trust me on that one.
Your kahl albino has a nice size, it's too bad you had nothing to with it. Your enclosure looks very amateur, sticker still in the bowl and tape on your boxes for hides. Very poor.
What are you using for heat? How are you controlling that heat?
Got some thermostats yet?

Re: NEW Kahl Albino
Instead of a box with tape, use a cat litter pan as a hide. Dollar store ones work well.
Or remove the tape and glue your box together
The bowl sticker is going to fester with and retain bacteria with time. So best put in the effort to remove it.

Or, at the cost of only one spare dollar, he could get a new one at the Dollar Store, seeing how someone mysteriously gorrila-glued that sticker in his current bowl.

OK, here's the deal. You don't have to actively cuss, or start a flame war to be considered "breaking rules" to get banned. As you found out on the other board your irresponsible actions and deliberate, disregard for the advice of well known, experienced keepers did that.
Oddly enough you are now here in the Red Tail Boa Forum on BP.Net showing the same patterns from the other board.
Remember you just recently asked if a female 3 year old BCI was done growing? Asking a question like that having just announced you have an upcoming litter of Dumeril boa babies makes people wonder. I won't go into detail and again can't totally fault you for some immature, age related, poor decisions. However when you ask for advice, you tend to do the opposite or get defensive. That is where you upset experienced people, and that is where administrators of these boards get clued in, and then BOOM! You are done.
Like I said slow down, don't be the snake world equivalent of a puppy mill.
It's the last bit of advice I can offer you.
-
Re: NEW Kahl Albino
Just FYI... I just recently bought these water bowls and the logos aren't stickers like the other bowls I've used. They're 'painted' in the bowls or something.
