Is my snake a pig?
My ball python ghost,Kocur....I could swear he is always hungry. I feed him every 4-5 days..but as of late,he is in his hide all day ( like usual) while I'm at work,I'm assuming atleast. When I come home between the hours of 6pm and 8pm he is in his hide...as soon as I get in I re wett his rag on top the screen. As soon as he hears this noise he comes right out, tongue going a mile a minute and slithers around for hours on end. Once I go to bed,he usually goes back in a little before or after. I wake in the am,re wett the towel and he don't come out. And yes I do feed him more often at night.
so he's either greeting me,lol or he is looking for food..It's apparent he's hungry..he takes every meal, live or FT mouse or rat. No hesitation either.
anyone have another snakes that do this? Plus I did buy a rat and a few hoppers tonight, maybe he smells them( hoppers are for my little 5 week old hatchling) and the rats for Kocur for Sunday night. Hit he still been doing this lately when I get home at night and I don't wanna over feed him, cause I think4-5 days is plenty

My Brianna is constantly hungry. I'm convinced that she would eat every day if I would allow it.

Is your ball python a hatchling or yearling, or older than that? I have heard that hatchlings are the only ones who should be fed every 5 days, and older ones shouldn't be fed as often (not an expert here, just regurgitating what I've read so it could be off).
I'm wondering if yours is associating you coming in the room/opening the lid with food time! :P
But a monster feeder isn't always a bad thing. Hopefully you'll never have a problem getting him/her to eat, eh!

I feel the same about my guy,he will eat anything any time..he's a188 gram BP and he ate a pinky last week,lol..my other didn't want it and I didn't want it to die and go to waste soi put it in the tank and Kocur ,he constricted it lol,and swallowed it...it was pretty great to see. He will just eat and eat. It's relieving though, thnk god he ain't picky. My other guy just ate his 4 mouse me his first hopper about 30 mins ago, which he downed, but won't eat rats or FT,I've tried..he's a pain in the back, but atleast he eats.

Kocur is about 3-4 months I believe and 188 grams. Slither is about 6 weeks and is about 64 grams( very under fed when I first got him,but has aten 4 times since Oct 13). Over read ppl say when there BP hits 300 grams then they feed about once a week.
he def is associating the lid noise with food,I do feed him in his enclosure. At the moment I'm watching him slither around,I wanna feed him ,lol,I feel bad,but he's a slob.
ll,
like the EH,so Canadian,lol..I'm die hard Rangers fans..the NHL is the only sport I follow,it's my religion.

Haha I bet a lot of us have at least one or a couple of piggies in our collection. Bubo didn't eat for a whole month when I first got him but right on the 5th week he is now a non stop eating machine and would definitely eat everyday if I offered it to him. I think him getting shipped threw him off but now that he's settled in he's become a little piggy lol. So don't worry about him :) he just likes to eat. And every 4-5 days is a great feeding schedule for him I feed Bubo the same way. How old is Kocur?

Re: Is my snake a pig?
Are you sure his meals aren't too small? That's the first thing that comes to mind, although one of mine is the same way. She got 3 meals the other week because no one else wanted to eat. I could probably give it to her still frozen and she'd snap it right up :)

Bubo will be 5 months old officially on November 8 so he's just a little older than your little one :) and his latest weigh in was at about 234g. But it makes me happy knowing my husbandry is on point too, because when he wasn't eating I was freaking out that something was wrong lol but once he started eating he hasn't stopped yet. But I bet Kocur is an awesome little dude! I wanna see some pics of this little piggy now :D

she sounds like a pig, lol, like mine.
No, there def not too small... They are just about the fattest girth of his body.. I just bought him a rat today,it's equivalent to the size of a large adult mouse and it's slightly thicker than his body..he will eatt it most likely with no problems and within 2 days be out slithering around all over again. He's a pig and he's been getting fed more or less every 4 days .

One of my ball pythons- my more anorexic one- has been like this. She doesn't seem to want to eat on feeding days, but lo and behold, I walk in the room with soapy hands two days later and she's flying out of her hide like something from Jurassic Park.
Oddly enough, she didn't eat the following week.

Omg he's gorgeous!! I love him! He's too cute! Hopefully your little piggy won't try to taste you like Bubo did to me today lol today was his feeding day and afterward I had to put his decorative log sticky thing back in and he decided he wanted desert haha he never draws blood when he bites me though so I never post pics. But he's a sweetheart when he's not in feeding mode :P

My snake Calypso has no shame in killing the mouse and then taking the time to decide whether or not to eat it. She's about 5 months and eats two mice every 7-8 days. So it just depends on how old he/she is and how often for the size of the prey.

Those are always nice to offset the fussy eaters aren't they? lol
I'm especially happy about Brianna's appetite, as this will be her first year breeding. She is around 1700 grams now and still growing like a weed. She's always had a healthy appetite but was a slow grower the first three years of her life. But this past year? She was around 700 grams in February, and now about 1700, so in 9 months her mass has grown by roughly 2 and a half times. I've never had a growth spurt like this one but I'll be happy to keep it going as long as she wants. :)

Omg that is freaking amazing!! Congrats on an awesome growth spurt! :D that's too cool. That's the best part about all of this is watching them grow :)

Alexis, yeah he is cute, haha, but TY..he nipped me 2 weeks ago and didn't draw any blood left a few little marks, but was all my fault. He also is very sweet and has not a mean bone in his body.. He's ding along to be a great pet.
pics of Bubo?
Ball clan, that's an insane growth spur. You are apparently doing everything right. What are you breeding her too? Keep feeding her and keep letting her grow. And at 1700 grams is nice, but she will prob get up too 3500. Maybe more,I hope for you atleast :)
These are my first 2 snakes, but it's a good feeling to see I'm doing everything right...took a lot of messing around with temps and bulbs and all shots of things to get temps and humidity good and proper.

I haven't had my Skull for very long but yeah, he's got an appetite. The only time he ever refused prey was due to a N00B mistake we made in letting the prey get too cold before we offered it. I warmed the mouse back up, my husband offered it again and ZAP! We feed F/T and it generally takes him less than a minute to sight and zap it. We've been feeding him two mouse fuzzies every 4 days. I know a fuzzy sounds small but they were a little larger than his girth. However, his girth has been getting bigger lately so we're going to switch over to larger prey after he sheds.

Re: Is my snake a pig?
All I know is I threw a rat in don't know what size but it was slightly a bit thicker than the girthiest part of his body... He came out as soon as I threw it in his enclosure, slithered over within 2 mins if even that long struck and chocked the crap out of this thing..swallowed him no problem..best thing is,this is how cool and sweet he is..as soon as he was done eating I saw some aspen stuck in his teeth, opened up the cage picked him right up and removed the aspen with the tongs and placed him right back into his hide..I didn't get a single hiss or strike out of him,he really is a sweetheart..
