Scale rot/peeling and other problems?
I bought 2 ball pythons yesterday. A male rescue who is skittish but otherwise has no problems (that nice noticed yet) and a female who has several problems. Some of the scales on her belly are dry and splitting/flaking, I pulled what looked like a small (really tiny) piece of rock out from under one scale earlier today. Aside from that she is calm when being held, curious, and even drank some water earlier.

I got them from 2 different breeders. The male is a rescue and possibly het lavender. He also said he was a "garbage disposal", a really good eater. Only information the other people gave me on the female was that she is normal. Does anyone know what this is? What would have caused this? They have paper towels as bedding right now.

@pythonfriend: I thought the same thing. Looks irritated/inflamed to me but I don't know much about the heat pits either.

Correct. I didn't use flash at all. It might have been the lighting. She was laying sideways (I had her in her back but her head was sideways) and the light was almost directly above us.

Thanks everyone :) I will get some betadine and neosporin for her. I'll keep updated on her progress.

Re: Scale rot/peeling and other problems?
That is good news. Let us know how her scales look after shedding. Hopefully her problems clear right up!
