Kingsnake/Fauna
A friend and I are thinking about building a new website similar to kingsnake and fauna. We feel that there are some features missing (we have a list) and we thought maybe this would be a good opportunity to get some feedback from you guys. What do you think kingsnake/fauna is missing?
Please feel free to post your thoughts here. Thank you!

Kingsnake/Fauna
well one thing i don't like about fauna is in their classifieds they don't have a section for reticulated pythons, blood/borneo pythons, or burmese pythons. they're all grouped under just "pythons." it's annoying having to scan through everything else when i just want to see the retics for sale..

We have a list and you will see the difference when the website is up. :) I would say in 3 - 6 months. We have jobs so this is going to be our side project.

Re: Kingsnake/Fauna
Ability to filter ads based on type of snake, age, size, sex, morph, price, and location.

x3. Especially location. I like to avoid shipping if I can.

Re: Kingsnake/Fauna
Both country filters and filter for ability to ship internationally.

Ad filtering based on animal taxonomy. That would just be a cool feature.

I think a seller rating system like Ebay or Amazon would be a good idea. Not everyone knows about the BOI and Kingsnake doesn't have any sort of feedback forum because they're afraid of being sued. Alot of the crappy sellers would not still be there if you could readily see their track record or maybe they would even try a little harder.
As far as breaking down the forums further, like dividing the python forum by species, you have to have a good number of ads in each section. If you don't people just stop looking at the particular section altogether. Kingsnake, for a while, tried subdividing some of the sections like dividing the mexicana section into the subspecies, but went back because it didn't work well. The filter idea, I think, is a good one though. Would make it easy for those looking for something in particular instead of just browsing.

My only advice is to make something as simple, dummy proof, and easy access as possible.
Fauna is really not user friendly. Not as much as Kingsnake at least.
I tend to find better animals on Fauna, but it's so frustrating looking through and/or searching their classifieds. And because of that, I just tend to ignore it and stick with Kingsnake.

I totally agree with you guys. My hope is to develop a website that is easy to navigate and to search what you and I are looking for. I feel like I'm browsing every time I use both sites when I'm actually trying to look for something specific.

Another vote for a location based search feature. Another forum I use for another hobby allows you to search within a certain number of miles fom your zipcode. For example, I can limit it to only seeing ads within a hundred mile of my home zip. by stae might also be nice for those of us trying to find something that may be restricted by the lacey act.

Your feedback is actually building my confidence. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way! :)
I will keep checking this thread so if you have any more feedback, please feel free and share. Thank you.

Can I ask what site your talking about?

We have a name but we do not want to announce it yet. I will announce the site shortly (maybe at the end of the week) but don't expect the site to be up and running for maybe three months.

I agree with that. I prefer to see what I am buying in person first.

Kingsnake/Fauna
I would like a way to narrow my search by price kinda like Craig's list.

Ability to search words that are 3-letters. I don't know if there are many two-letter abbreviations people look for (perhaps cb?), but I know of several three-letter abbreviations: ATB, BEL, RTB... And it's annoying not to be able to search for those things on Fauna or Kingsnake. :P

Fully agree! Trying to search for a bel or ghi is impossible....

Yep, all of your inputs are already in the works and we have some extras that nobody mentioned yet. :)
