So on Aug 14-15 you can buy the actually snakes there?
If so I might go ... I'm looking to buy a leucistic rat snake, and maybe a ball python or two.
The show is sold out!? :(

Hmm, I'd go but don't have any money or a way to get there  Looks like it will be fun! I'm going to try and catch the Mid-Atlantic Reptile Show in Timonium Sep 18-19th.

Edit: Carson, wish I had the money. I'd catch a ride with you if I did :P

    CHRISTMAS !!!
Hey Brandon, there's one in Austin in August, and one in Dallas/Arlington in September. I'm thinking of going to both of those. Those shouldn't be too extremely far from you.

ErR I don't think I'll be going anymore, I'm actually going to adopt a red tail and snow corn this month.
I don't know if I'll have space for that leucistic texas ratsnake that I wanted to buy.

Maybe SatanicIntention will have to go catch me one in Texas :D ...

Well, from El Paso, it's about 8 hours drive to Austin or 10 hours to Dallas, if I remember correctly. Texas is a BIG state! LOL

I'm seriously planning on going to the show in Daytona, but it's not quite set in stone yet as things are still in flux around here. I'm about 90% sure my daughter and I are going to drive out there, though. Should be a great mother/daughter get-away!

I'll be going at least one of the days. Was going to spend the weekend, but since being laid off just don't think that will fit the budget...so we'll probably head that way on the Saturday and spend the day.

ah i was wondering where the post was about the expo next weekend 8)
you couldn't drag me away from that
i went to FIRS at the Florida State Fairgrounds, Tampa in March
Reptile Marketplace at the Central Florida Fairgrounds, Orlando in May
and FIRE at the Orlando Marriott Downtown last month
this expo is suppose to be THE show of shows
i've never been to the ocean center b4 and what good are you if you don't drive the entire length of I-4 chasing after exotics?
I'm coming from Orlando and plan to be waiting at the door that Saturday b4 it opens, twitching like a dumbass kid on Christmas morning waiting for presents, i'll try to stop my twitching b4 going in and attracting the eye of a weary burm
IF someone wants to carpool or convoy to save $ or for company, thats a possibility for me
i am thinking that i need a means to transport a good size cage back with me and am not certain my sedan will do, so trucks are welcome if you got 'em 8)

Dark, Did you attend the Reptile Expo in Boca Raton?
It kinda blowed, it was really small.
    I can't wait for Daytona! :)

Darke, how was the FIRE show in Orlando? was considering checking it out, but never made it.
Blink, we'll talk before and definitely meet up there...looking forward to it!
  • 08-05-2004, 10:16 AM
    DarkeFireStorm
the FIRE show was cool, i can't quite tell if it was bigger than FIRS in Tampa since it was split up into 2 rooms, but I'm thinking it was
out of the 3 i liked it the most, i actually convinced my sister to come, who is afraid of "creepies" and now you can't visit her w/o seeing her pet leopard gecko
Reptile Marketplace might be in that "blows" category :?
its only a single day and its small, like the outhouse of cons, but i bet i go back next time, its still a reptile show and if you find what you want, the prices are as low as they come
Boca Raton is a bit far for me, coming from Orlando i'm only willing to go as far as I-4 can take me, plus i'm thinking being a snake person its a bad idea to willing travel to a place commonly called "mouth of the rat"

Hopefully I'll get to check out FIRE next year b/c it looked really awesome. 'creepies'--cute!

i find this weird that theres so little talk about this show lately
umm is ne one concerned about the weather? :?
i don't see ne advisories that say theres a threat to daytona beach
but the current storm path timing certainly makes you think
when having a show, the prep work needs to be going on now
i'd rather not drive that far and not know whats happening :|

Yeah, I heard about the storm!
    But I'm still going! =/

the storm will be well out of florida by the weekend. it is supposed to hit the georgia coast just after midnight tonight, so i'm betting that everything will be fine for the weekend in daytona. just be careful if you are driving there on friday.

Although Charley made landfall south of the Tampa Bay area (Ft. Meyers area) I still will not be able to attend :( It has been a crazy 2 days preping for the hurricane etc. and need to deal w/some other priorities.
However, it did go through Daytona beach but was weakened by then. I do not believe they sustained much damage there so the show should go on as usual.

    DarkeFireStorm
OK, i will write post-con first then :P
as i was driving up Saturday morning i didn't really know whether it was going to happen
the further i drove the more destruction and Daytona really took it from Charley as well :(
If not for police directing traffic it would have been chaos
the Ocean Center did very well and the show was seemingly unaffected
    good show too
i have a couple of pics that are relevant

    http://home.iprimus.com.au/rwebber/con1.jpg

picked up a big female BCI heres the 100in shed i got just a few days later, WOW
i call her Recon, she seems dressed for the part, plus she is a REd tail CONstrictor and i got her at a REptile CONvention, just if your wanting to know where that name came from

    http://home.iprimus.com.au/rwebber/molt.jpg

heres the new set up situation (ball on top, then red tail and finally guinea pigs)

    http://home.iprimus.com.au/rwebber/setup.jpg

if you had read my sig at the bottom there b4 the show you'll notice the 2 new spider names (also bought at Daytona) and that my ball is no longer a mystery, very cool 8)
does this show have to happen only once a year? :P

That show is huge! I'm so sorry I didn't get to make it this year. I will definitely be going to the Atlanta show, and considering going to the Greenville, SC show at the end of October too.

I was totally bummed about not making it but there's always next year.....gonna try my best to make it to Atlanta, maybe that'll make up for missing Daytona!!

The Atlanta show is pretty big, but I don't think it will quite rival Daytona. Great timing for holiday shopping though! ;)

what is the exact date for the atlanta show (yes i am being lazy instead of just looking it up for myself :D ) oh, and i DO expect to receive presents that were bought there.

Nov 20-21 this year, and for all considering coming, it may be the last Atlanta show. On the other hand, the Columbia show has been moved to Greenville, which isn't too bad a drive.

I think Greenville will probably be bigger/better, but not necessarily enough so to justify adding 2-2.5 hours to your drive time. Last year, IIRC, Atlanta had 10k-11k visitors and SC had about 14k. A show big enough to draw more than, say, 5k visitors probably has more attendance determined by timing, convenience of location, and how well it was promoted rather than by the quality or number of exhibitors, IMHO.

actually its about the same time-wise from savannah either way. i ask because i might be having a certain wedding on thanksgiving weekend, so i'm not so sure that the weekend before that is the best time to be traveling out of town. so it may be greenville for me. :D

Ah well. If you can make it to the Atlanta show, please do, because I'll definitely be there and there are a few others from here planning on attending. The more the better!
