First Ball Python Bite!
Well I received my fist bit from my pastel. I was feeding the other two in the tax and went into her cage and although she are two days ago I saw she was ready. Still she never showed aggression before and never struck even if my hands smelled like rat etc. well tonight she hit me as soon as my hand reached in.
I have to be honest I was hoping it happened earlier so I knew what to expect. It didn't hurt much but shocked me. I hope she doesn't decide to bite often cause I don't want my daughter to get bit. She is 8 and really enjoys handling her. I think it was just because she is still super hungry.

I always wash my hands before going into the cage and before handling. I can't remember when I last pet the cat or dog.
I don't want to tempt the snake.

I have 5 snakes right now that will literally come out of their tanks the moment they smell food in the room. My 3000gram cinny will hurl his 5 ft long body 4 ft out of his tank the moment I slid it open. Maybe since you were feeding the two others, your pastel was just hungery and on super feeding mode. Sometimes it just needs to be a wiff on food to make hungry snakes do crazy, never done before things, like bitting the hand that feeds them. I personally don't think you have anything to worry about with your children. Give it like two or three days, and try to get her out and see what her temperment is like. I feel like you will be plesently suprised. Best of luck.

Her feeding response has been insane lately. I am positive that is all it is.

Re: First Ball Python Bite!
My 2100g female got the inside of my elbow last week. She's my 'pet' and I often walk around with her over my shoulder, her head at my back. Well, I'd been cleaning rat cages and didn't realize my shirt smelled like rats, so when I put her over my shoulder, facing front this ONE time, she went CHOMP! Of course she was in feeding mode so she held on for a second before she realized what she'd done. I always tell people it just feels like a shot, it's nothing horrible!

LOL, yeah I'm more afraid of the strike, than afraid of what the bite will cause, because they do not seem to do much damage. I used to mess around with garter snakes all the time when I was a kid (we had this ditch that was full of them), and the odd one can be aggressive at first, and I definitely got bit my fair share, and it never phased me, but now I'm chicken LOL.
If she seems hungry more often, you might want to feed more often, or maybe larger prey. What's her weight and how often do you feed and what size prey?

She gets fed plenty, believe me! Usually a medium rat every week since she's one of my breeders as well, or she gets fuzzy rabbits when I have them since I breed rabbits for showing. Last I weighed, she was just a little over 2100g.

Oh, ok, so she's a good size. I feel like mine want to binge right now, is it the time of year? I feel like my 500g (normal) would eat a 40g rat every 3 days if I let her.
I was going to say not to worry about the 8yr old getting bitten, but she's big so she might pack a pretty good bite. I guess just make sure you take her out, don't let your daughter do that part, at least for now. They are less likely to bite once in hand.

Mine is 1000grams and just are a 135 gram rat and I know she would take another of the 100 gram rats if I let her the next day! It's crazy how hungry she is right now. She'll just have to wait till next week.
I wish the other two were like that right now. The seem to off and on. I think it's because they have been crapping on feed day and me cleaning the cage a few hours before stresses them. I will wait till the next day to feed if I have to clean the cage.
