    Sign of RI
i was watching this video in youtube showing about how to inspect RI in ball Phyton.

then i try it to all my snakes, and i found that every balls in my collection has it.

i'm curious about RI, if my snakes eating well, and i always check my husbandry, with hotspot 32C, ambient 28-30 (summer), humidity around 30-50%

but when i try to open the sides of the lips i'll find few small bubbles (around 3-5 bubbles), but my snakes didnt make wheeze, or clicking or popping sounds, and i couldn't find any goo on the side wall of the tubs.

so?? are my snakes got RI? or is it normal to have few bubbles when you pry open the side lips?

    Hello Fullhouse,

It is common for snakes to have a few bubbles in their mouths as they naturally do have some saliva. Lifting their lips to see bubbles isn't a very good indicator of a RI.

My general rule is wait until you see/hear 2 symptoms before jumping to conclusions.

I have the same question--one of my snakes picked up an RI and was moved to qt immediately when I noticed (and is now on a fortaz treatment). But now I am paranoid that I spread to the rest of my collection before I realized she had it. Many of my snake have a few bubbles here and there in their mouths/throats when I look inside. Is this typical of all snakes, or have I spread the RI around?

    Are the other snakes:

    1) Eating?
    2) Holding their heads upright (looking up to the sky)?
    3) making any kind of clicking of wheezing sounds?

Ok, here are some photos of snakes with RI's. Not all Ball Pythons, but they show the same symptoms.

    Mouth Open:

Thick saliva on the sides of their mouths. You can often see if on the sides of their tubs where they rub up against.

Most all took food last night when offered. The main snake I am worried about has slightly more bubbles than the rest including some in the roof of his mouth. He makes a very slight clicking noise randomly with no real consistency during breathing. He has no mucus or discharge, no bubbles from the nostrils/corner of mouth, and doesn't elevate his head whatsoever. The only reason I even initially thought he may have had an RI was because I opened his mouth, otherwise his behavior is normal other than the occasional faint pop.

I have increased all temperatures by a couple degrees to be precautionary.

thx rickys for your fast reply,

my snakes definitely don't look that bad, i believe that pic are the later symptom of RI aren't they?

if i press the head there will some saliva stick to my finger, but not that much until bubbling out.
    the saliva is clear.

hopefully my snake not at the first symptom of RI:(

If they don't have an RI I don't think you should treat for one in all honesty.

And I really don't think doing it with untested chemicals on top of that is a good idea.

Too many things could go wrong including scarring of the lungs.

Instead of throwing chemicals into him immediately, isolate the one you think may be sick, and bump up his temperatures and humidity slightly over normal. Odds are it's nothing, but you're the one who sees the snake every day and will know when he's not quite right.

all my snakes look similar, that's why i want to know how the normal healthy ball phytons mouth looks like. cause i'm curious, every snakes that i bought usually got some bubbles when i pry open the side of the lips, eventhough there all eating well, no wheezing or popping sound.
