Possible Morphs??
My husband and I are just getting into Ball Pythons and were looking to get some help with identifying the ball pythons that we have. We received 4 ball pythons from a gentleman that was moving and couldn't keep them. He wasn't 100% sure what morphs they were. The adult is not related to the yearlings.
First is an adult he was thinking this was a yellow belly, but I think it looks too silver or gray, in some of the pictures it looks more brown/gold but in pics 1 and 2 you can see the color it is in person.
Photos of Adult- http://s1344.photobucket.com/user/alucky...
Second is a yearling. He thought she was a pastel. She is a little lighter than her two siblings.
Young A- http://s1344.photobucket.com/user/alucky...
The last two are siblings of the "pastel". We were told they are normal. They look normal to me I just wanted to be sure.
Young B- http://s1344.photobucket.com/user/alucky...
Young C- http://s1344.photobucket.com/user/alucky...
Thanks for your time!! :D

They appear to be all normals to me.
-
-
You sure?? The bellies on the Adult and Young A are so clean... Normals have that?? And the Blushing between the aliens on the Adult and Young A is quite prominent.
-
I see all normal

All normals are different, which is what makes them so cool. So yeah, a normal can have a clean belly, or a very patterned belly.
-
Normals are very variable.
Everyone looks normal to me except Young A. (Definitely NOT a pastel, btw.) idk. I would definitely pick that one up. Something's pretty cool there.
-
So how do you tell if they are morphs if all normals can be so different? I am so lost. I thought forsure those 2 were something different. Im kinda upset they aren't, I cant seem to get this morph thing down....

Study the morph list. look up different examples of morphs. Read up exactly what "makes" a morph.
The only way you'll get good at ID'ing is to become familiar with them. :) It doesn't happen overnight.

Re: Possible Morphs??
How would I go about finding out what she may possibly be? Is it just a breeding game? If so, what would I breed her with?
-
Breed her to a normal

What she said. Some morphs are subtle but are still visible if ya know what to look for :)

Ive been looking up morphs for months now and the problem is everyone has different explanations for things. I got most of the more dramatic morphs down, like pinstripe and spider. However when it comes to ones like cinnamon or yellow belly I'm lost. Ive watched videos literally contradicting each other about what a yellow belly's belly looks like LOL :tricho:
-
There shouldn't be anything contradictory, the yellow belly belly is pretty straight forward
And I love cinnamons, I'm on the hunt for a female as we speak :)

I appreciate all the advice everyone. I hope I'm not coming across as ungrateful! I'm just so frustrated, I was looking forward to two unique ones. O well, live and learn.
But hearing that that girl might be something unique is exciting!

Re: Possible Morphs??
One said there will be dark marks "tracks" down the sides of the belly and the other said it would be clean with only minor marks down the sides.
-
Don't get too excited, lol. No one's agreed with me yet, but I think it's because they didn't take the pix fullscreen. She's kinda speckled-y, and that combined with her clear belly seems very cool to me. I don't want to get your hopes up, though! Appreciate them for what they all are- beautiful animals.

A yellow belly trait is the tracks down the sides. Best place to look is the morph list on WOPB

Re: Possible Morphs??
Young A had a head spot, good flames and clear belly. My first thought was YB when I saw her. just wanted to share that.

I keep seeing something special in my adult, he has, a clean belly, flames, a head spot, major speckling and has thick white bands around the aliens. Maybe its just that I want him to be something different. I just think he looks so cool and I dont want to call it "normal" lol. I look at the two young normals i have and he looks way different. But you all have WAY more experience with these morphs than I do, so my common sense is saying to listen lol
-
We all want to see something special in our normals. :)
Normals vary some are nicer than others.... but still normals non the less.
Be happy they are healthy and nice looking normals :)

If you think they are too special to be labeled Normals, than label them dinkers and try to prove them out! However, keep in mind there is nothing wrong with having a kick butt normal!
-
Yea, they are all normal's. Nice ones, but normal's none the less. Normals can have head spots, fading, weird patterns, so on. If you look up Morphs 101 on youtube, Justin does great videos on explaining the difference on subtle morphs like the yellow belly and such. And as others linked, use the World of Ball python morph list and look up ones like Yellow Belly, Fire, Pastel, Vanilla... your subtle morphs that look kinda normal. I too thought my first one was a yellow belly, but after seeing countless pictures and studying what a Yellow Belly looks like and reading descriptions, she is just a plain Jane normal :) Cinnamons are pretty easy to tell by the color and pattern too.
It takes time to learn the normal looking morphs and what to look for, but you'll get it :) Took me a while too. But you have a nice looking group of babies there!
My Cinnamon female, as you can see dark and a strange "floating" alien head pattern

My Pastel female (poor lighting) but you can see a definite difference from a normal with the amount of bright yellow.

If you are so dissapointed that they are normals...
why didn't you actually buy some morphs? Breeders are practically giving away nice examples of
Pastels, Lessers, Mojaves, Spiders, and almost any other single gene Ball. Unless you buy a Dinker,
because you think it looks crazy and want to take the time and $$$ to prove it out, with Pastels selling
for what normals do, buy yourself a real Pastel.
Chances are, the seller knew what they had but since you did not...got a sale.
Help out your local breeders...not the jokers on Craig's List or the like.
