Is a heat pad necessary or would just a heat lamp work? If the heat pad is necessary does it have to cover the length of the cage or just the warmer side? If the heat pad is necessary can you recommend some easy to find human heat pads. Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

A heat pad probably isn't necessary but it provides belly heat which is key to successful digestion for bp's. Just put the heat pad under the side you want to have warm. Doing so will make a temperature gradient from the warm side to the cool side.
Here's a good heat pad people use.

We have 2 of those, work great! Just an FYI...I've heard though that sometimes the low and high settings can be reversed, but I tested ours and they are correct.

Yeah - picking up a couple more of those tonight - so far I've run across 2 that were reverse wired.

I'm surprised they haven't recalled them if some are reversed wired. Although I guess it isn't serious enough. 8)

One of my six was reverse wired. I couldnt understand why it was so hot on low, until i figured i'd try to see how hot it would get on hot and it was cooler.

    Animal Planet now!!!!
I got the heat pad(the same one you guys recommended / use). I just have one follow up question. Should I just have the heating pad up against the sterilite container or have a spacing? If I need to space the two how much space should it have? Thanks in advance. You guys have already been very helpful. :D

You need to have spacing for hot air to escape ... a small gap between the sterilite and pad ... my spacing is a little under an inch ...
