    Zilla Dome Light Replacement parts
I purchased a Zilla dome light a few weeks ago. As luck would have it I dropped it and broke the ceramic piece at the top that locks it all in. Wrote to Zilla about getting a replacement part, but received a reply that they do not offer repair parts. There email said i would have to buy another light. Surprised at the response I replied that fortunately I have other choices of vendors for any future needs.

Anyone know of a site to buy/swap repair parts for reptile equipment in general? If not maybe we need to start a forum for little issues like this.

    Thanks!

Just being honest that if u can't afford to buy one then u shouldnt own a pet to begin with. If it breaks first thing I would have done is ran to the local pet store and bought a new one. Something to think about though, cause food and maintanence and possibly vet can be pricey. Just throwing it out there

people dont deal with spare parts unless the device in question is really valuable.

so you can deal with car parts or iphone parts or washng machine parts or laptop parts.

otherwise, like for example with the 1989 original game boy and later game boy versions, people sell broken ones cheaply on ebay. one time i purchased 5 broken ones and turned them into 3 perfectly working ones. But thats because there is a community behind this vintage computer game stuff.

apart from that, for anything else, anything where the whole thing costs less than 100 dollars, you can MAYBE get spare parts from the manufacturer, but only in a few occasions and when customer support is excellent.

its just not worth it. the few people that are really into it buy, for example, 50 broken flatscreen monitors all from the same company or even better the same model and turn them into 20 or 30 working ones. There is just no incentive to do it with lightbulbs or toasters or alarm clocks or small stuff like that.

Skip the expensive petstore one and get one from a hardware or feed store. Likely to be cheaper than a part even if you find one. And my thoughts are that shipping would be prohibitive considering the cost/value of moving these items.

    X2

I have bought so many from the "big names" in the reptile industry it's ridiculous.. Yet, the one I got from Lowes last year is still working perfectly fine. I'd recommend just getting one from there and saving your money

Funny how people can't wait to pounce on someone! So you NEVER bought a repair part for anything? And to NYHC who implied I couldn't "afford" a replacement - wow! This has nothing to do with not being able to afford it nor did I say anywhere in my post that I couldn't afford another light. But thanks for the insight into my bank account!

Just crazy how so many things are designed to be throw-away anymore. I was just trying to salvage something instead of adding to the landfills.

    Sheesh!

best bet would be to buy a broken one of the same model, that is broken in the same way. a burned out one should still have the part you are missing right? check online auction sites for that, people just sell broken valuable electronics stuff there. when noone buys it they throw it out, some people really put up anything. make a working one out of two broken ones; keep spare parts that are still good.

that might be worth a shot, otherwise, i dont think it makes sense to invest too much time and effort.

if you cannot get a spare part and cannot fix it without a spare part, what are you going to do except to make one working unit out of two broken ones?

x3. I buy mine at the local farm supply store. They run about 5 dollars for the small ones and 7 for the large. Much cheaper than the "pet store" ones.

Yeah, id have to agree with SOME of the posts here. The part that broke is the ceramic piece....that is probably the most difficult piece to replace on the appliance. You may be able to find it at Lowes or Home Depot, but for a little more you can prob just replace the whole thing there. Just like everything else, theyre unfortunately not made to last.

Sadly I've never had luck with Zilla products.

Cheaply made and extremely under powered when it comes to heating.

They would be awesome if they did what they were supposed to, a lot of their products are really good ideas.

Yeah my wife worked at a pet store for ten years and they constantly had Zilla products returned.
    Especially

    http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/12/apaha6yq.jpg

This product was a joke tons of them were returned to the pet store either from shorting out, not putting out heat, or burning out multiple bulbs within days.

Like other people posted on here I also get the domes from lowes or Home Depot. As long as the fixture is ceramic, they are way cheaper and lots of mine are more than 5 years old :)

    Have fun at the expo
