My New Butter Ball Python and My First Time Sexing (Popping Method)!
Today I got a Butter Ball Python from the pet store and I thought it was a he (I just assumed) but I successfully popped HER! That's right it's my first female ball python! I saw a pink organ pop outwards and it had a hole in it so I am 100% now she is a girl :gj: Now I just need some name ideas! Anyone have a good name for my new girl? Post something you think sounds good! Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I just tried "popping" again and I got the penis-like thing to come out, in the videos there are 2 but I only saw 1 and I did not want to press too hard. Also a white thing came out of the end which I think is a sperm plug, can anyone confirm this? It was like a small dot and there were two that came out, any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance everyone!
P.S. Don't worry about the name I thought of one :gj:

I thought that's what it was because I have seen MANY videos on Youtube about popping, and seeing the sperm plugs, and his name is Butters lol :)

I had a good friend in the Air Force named Butters!!! Awesome! He was such a sweetheart, too. Is your little guy a sweetheart?

Cool! And yes, he is very tame, doesn't bite, he's just very friendly all around. I have never had or seen up close a ball that bites but I have seen kingsnakes that bite, have you ever seen a ball that bites people?

Congrats on the boy (?)!!! You should post some pics up here. And if you want to see a ball that bites, come over to my place :)

Thankfully, no I have never seen a biter. I think for the most part, if they are in the correct set up, handled regularly, and are fed well, that most ball pythons won't bite.
That isn't too say there aren't some feisty little things out there! Lol I'm just glad I haven't met them! ;-)

Ye I agree, if a ball is properly taken care of I wouldn't think they would bite, but ye there are most likely feisty ones out there! :)

I have 8 BP that are all mice for the most part, het the occasional hiss from my pastel male. But recently I hot this little girl normal that had scares that cover about half of her body on her back only, the owner said she got burned by heat rock but not sure. She is mean as all get out. Eats perfectly very well fed. But when you come close to her tub you hear a boom cause she strikes. I can't open her tub without a strike from her. I haven't got tagged yet but I will. Even while holding het she strikes at anything and everything.

How old is he? He looks like a hatchling. I doubt very much it was a sperm plug, it may have been a piece of urate, that was hanging around in the coloca vent

I don't know his exact age, I got him from PetSmart, they kept a feeding log of him and he eats well, every Tuesday, but I am going to start feeding him a week after I got him so he can acclimate to his new home.

Main problem with people who do not have experience in popping is finger placement and pressure.
More often than not people do not apply enough pressure by fear to injure the animal which makes them unable to accurately sex their BP.
My advice found someone near you that can teach you, there are things you can get from a video but getting an idea of how much pressure it’s something you get when you are taught in person.
After that it’s all about practice.
